Saying 'maybe' to a fairly solid opener (like either of those you wrote about) is a definite IOD unless she says it cheekily with a smile. If they're cold in the first 30 seconds just move on, even if you do somehow crack her open you'd of spent that time better opening other options.

Like in another comment, you're pressuring yourself too much. If you start with a topic, you should know at least a bit about it, or be interested in it that you can ask more in detail questions. For example:

She:I'm a photographer You: that sounds interesting, I have to admit I have not much information on the details, but is there a camera you would suggest for a beginner?

She: bla bla bla bla You: nice, you seem to know a lot about cameras, but I wonder something. Was photography your first choice when you were a little girl, or did you plan to become a princess, like all other girls?

And so on. Just try to have interest and switch between teasing her, and making her talk about herself. In between you talk about your experiences or plans a bit and so on.
