Be playful, sexy and confident during the attracting part. Move her around the venue don't stay in one spot too long. Be physical and yet act like it's casual. Win her friends over first if possible.

But most importantly even though it's a party, don't forget to get serious at some point when you two are alone together.

They only find it weird if you make it weird
Going out alone is initially the best method
Use your first few nights out to make some new friends who you can go out with again later in the week if not next weekend
Developing your social skills and social circle will take time but once you get it, you'll regret not starting sooner

I like going out solo but it's much more difficult and not as fun. I still do it all the time tho. My advice would be to get into any set as soon as possible and make a little home base.

Don’t bring it up. If she asks just say you’re new and town and she looks cool to hang out with, let’s see if you’re really that cool or lame. I do this when traveling because I really am new. Not many people will care, especially if you can interact positively with people around you/her or anyone near you. It just shows that despite not knowing anyone you have social skills to achieve social status.
