Taking a girl to dinner today but I didn’t use the word date when we set it up, is it a date? Do I tell her it’s a date?

You already asked her out, she already said yes. You managed to avoid taking her out to lunch which is good, that's usually a friend thing. I would just get this out of your head, stop trying to label it a date or get her to verbally acknowledge that it's a date, it would be awkward at this point since it shows you're taking this too seriously. If this is the first time you're meeting in a long time, don't look like a chump, just show your intent by man-to-woman type interactions at dinner. Let her know it's a date subconsciously, in a gradual way. If you somehow find out she has a boyfriend and only came out to catch up, you can scale back without feeling any type of way.

Like someone else said, you don't need to label it as a date but you need to make sure your make your interactions have a man to woman premise. So sprinkle in various jokes / assumptions / questions that have a built-in premise that this is a date and you are evaluating her as a potential partner.

No. The word date is pretty old fashioned and awkward.

If you can't convey that your intention is romantic and sexual with everything else in the way you carry yourself, then calling it a date won't help. She'll friendzone you anyways ;)

EDIT by convey I mean, laser eye contact, and making her feel like you're scanning her body appreciatively from top to bottom, even though your eyes are locked in hers. That's the first suble way to set the tone.

It is, but it's a lunch date which is more friendly than romantic.

Be prepared for her to ask, "Is this a date?" at some point.

I might suggest, "No, it's an audition. Next Friday, 8pm at... is the callback. How do you think you're doing? Do you think you're going to make the cut?"

Call it a hang out. If the word date hasn't been specifically used yet, don't use it. If she uses it, don't flip and disagree. Go with the flow, you're already in.
