From your post history, Im assuming you are a male, and you are interested in another male. My ques - is this guy you like also gay or no? Before asking him out, I strongly suggest finding out his preference FIRST before flirting with/asking him out.

Flirting is easy, it's just being friendly and fun with a little bit of extra eye contact. You're probably already doing it.
The trouble is, many guys are too dumb to notice, they have feelings of unworthiness or other inhibitions, or they literally don't know how to flirt back and move things along to a date.
I don't know if you'll find this helpful but I have a theory that the kind of people we get crushes on tend to be emotionally unavailable or they're unsuitable for other reasons. If that's true it's sort of a self-defeating habit we acquire. It's because we tend to bolster our own, weak self image by setting ourselves up for failure.
The solution I think is to cast a wide net of looking for partners and to seek out and reinforce success ... not to find out that someone is unreactive and then try to double down on the charm in order to break through to them.

I’m a girl and flirting is for sure not an easy thing no matter how pretty you are. I am extremely fucking shy so I understand where you’re coming from. Takes a lot for me to open myself up. I guess the only way to do it is to ask him subtly if he is seeing someone and see how he responds. Then tell him you’re not good at this and have never done it before, but could I give you my number. Go into it with no expectations. If he says no then you won’t feel terribly rejected. Although, you will feel like shit. If he says yes or sure, listen to his tone. See if you can read in his voice any surprise or excitement.
