Introduction

I'm in college, and I finally had the gall to ask out a classmate that I've known for a few months. I asked her out two weeks ago. When we're in class, I'm rather prudent as to not put our business out in the open, so I initiate kino in a rather friendly way to let her feel comfortable.

Body

Recently, we hung out, and that didn't go so well, as she had her sister tag along as well because we were suppose to go to my friend's (her brother's) birthday party. His party was a cluster-fuck so the sister and my date went to eat at a restaurant instead. My date's sister sat next to her when we went to the restaurant, so my opportunities to initiate kino was nullified. I didn't feel comfortable initiating as we drove home because I was pretty upset at how the day was going.

When she dropped me off at home, I could've hugged her and left, but I didn't do that either. I saw a glimmer of sadness in her eyes as I departed. I was upset with how the night was going, but I also felt guilty that I made my date suffer for it.

Dilemma

Before I asked my date out, I was suffering with being vulnerable because of past relationships where I was betrayed. A part of me wanted to open up to my date and make her feel comfortable and attractive, but my damaged side would clam up and reject being vulnerable with her. I was afraid that this would lead to another heartbreak as things started getting better. This was compounded by the fact that our night was going terrible.

After our date, I texted her to plan another date where we could have more personal time and gain that spark we sorely needed, but I got no response. We have the same classes and see each other everyday, and it feels awkward. When we talk to each other and it feels like something is in the air, but we just don't want to admit it. We're being cautiously polite, and I hate being fake.

I don't know if I should continue the same as before with friendly kino and push/pull, or pull her aside and tell her why I act the way I do. I want to tell her that it's sort of difficult for me being open in the beginning because of my past, but the more time we spend together, I get more comfortable around people in general. I don't mind being honest, and if she leaves she leaves. It'll hurt, but there is always another.

What would you do in this situation?
