Today I did some approaches, and I wasn’t shy or hesitant like usual. I was exactly like I am with close friends. I spoke clearly and wasn’t afraid to have fun with the conversation, joke, say what came into my mind, and tease. It felt so much easier to say hi to people as well, as if it had just clicked into place how simple it is to walk up to someone and say hi.
I think we worry so much about whether we’re confident people or not, that we forget that we have a comfortable, confident side within us all along. We just need to bring it out. It’s as much “you” as the shy version. You just have to believe in your own social ability because chances are, there’s a side of you that is fine meeting strangers. Whether it’s more attractive or not (i definitely think it was!), it really helps with staying positive through rejection, and also not worrying about things that don’t matter like “what if those people walking close by hear?”. All the mental blocks stopping me from approaching were gone or greatly weakened.
It makes me think of the fact that humans could bite their fingers off as easily as biting through a carrot. We just can’t bring ourselves to if we try because our mind is so against the notion. Similarly, we can approach people as easily as walking and talking, but our worries, and fear of opening and exploring ourselves make up 99% of the difficulty.
Think about how you feel, and how your personality is when you’re confident and comfortable in yourself, be that alone, with family and/or friends. Allow yourself to show that version of you to the world, and allow yourself to take on that side of you, and really feel comfortable in yourself. Allow your worries to dissolve.
