Spare me the vague definitions "Someone who lives by the beat of his own drum and doesn't give a fuck, etc", because the internet is full of them and they're very interpretive.

There's an idea behind what defines a "bad boy", it's someone who breaks certain rules. What exactly those rules are is what I'm looking to focus on. Does a bad boy drive the wrong way down the street to save time? Does a bad boy find himself in confrontation a lot? Is a bad boy a loner? Does a bad boy do things just for the sake of fighting the tide? A lot of the definitions, if taken literally, are the antithesis of successful social behavior.

My cousin is a very, "my way or the highway" type person and while you'd think this would turn people off, they seem to respect it in a weird way. I was at a festival with him and we just struck up conversation with these two girls which led to us all going to see an act together. At a certain point people were trying to push past to get ahead and he started telling them no on his side while the girl allowed them by. They had a brief discussion about it and the next time it happened she joined him in turning them down and telling them to go another way. When they cleared away she turned to him and smiled a very excited/entertained smile that she got to try something that felt so empowering.
