You need to start expressing your emotions and feelings. It may take time to remember how to be authentic and congruent if you have been suppressing yourself for longer time. Don't be subtle subtlety and use some generic formulas. Speak your heart and mind. Appreciate both of you as a couple.

Relationships are transactional in nature. Both are in it because they get what they want for a tolerable (for them) cost. If either side no longer feel they get what they want, or the cost is too great, it is usually over. It is difficult to change.

Might want to look into attachment theory. It seems like you have avoidant attachment. If he could get some info about that, he'd maybe know better how to express his needs and teach you how to do. Or you could teach him your ways too. I'm sure you have ways of showing affection that he doesn't always pick up.
