For context I am a person of color and male hovering between Canada and the US. I have recently moved to a west coast state and have been applying for jobs, but have felt overwhelmingly oppressed in the selection process. On the coastal cities more often than not the office's state "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" as one of their values but from my experience I have not seen any of that. I have applied for over 40 jobs in my field and most HR recruiter are relatively young , white, and female. What's more interesting is none of them had any degrees or work experience in my field, but yet they were the ones that filtered the initial applications to send to the actual hiring manager. None of my resumes and cover letters even made it to the people in my field making the hiring decisions when the recruiter was a young white female. What's interesting is whenever the initial HR screening was conducted by an older white woman or man I always managed to at least land an interview. For many of the jobs I applied for HR ended up hiring other seemingly mid-upperclass, attractive, and young white women straight out of college with much less/no experience or ability to handle physical tasks of some jobs (ex: lifting hundred pound barrels/tanks).

Another separate issue is how I am treated at work compared to that demographic. More often than not I end up having to do the majority of the work when I'm put with white women. One example would be one job I had that required us to work in water/snorkel as well as construction. My crewmate did not even know how to swim so she did not even do the most physically taxing and longest parts of the job. Another time was when I was stationed at a camp with girls and one guy. We were supposed to split chores and work evenly but that never happened. After field work the gals would just complain about how tired they were then go shower, even when me and the other guy were literally doing most of the heavy lifting. Because of that we also ended up doing the majority of the camp chores, as in me and the other guy would ended up cooking and doing dishes 5-6 times a week while the others played hooky. I know that there is a pay gap, but in my field it feels like the reversal, I do more work and have a higher skillset yet get paid the same. It often feels to me as if that group has the lowest amount of empathy and are actually the biggest demographic of the population here, but act as if they are disadvantaged.

I've talked to other men (white and colored) and women of color in my field and they have largely experienced the same. I'm not asking for a solution but I just need advice on how I can mentally cope with this blatant discrimination without going crazy. I really want to stop myself but I already find myself resenting the demographic of young, white, and well-off white women.
