Hi Everyone. I recently moved out of our apartment after my stbx of ten year marraige (11 years together) became unbearable. We were basically like co-tenants - she has always been controlling, emotionally and verbally abusive. We are legal immigrants and this started when we were back in our home country but escalated when she got here and started working. My biggest regret is filing an immigration petition for her when I saw all the red flags. Anyways, here we are. Me living on my own for the last month and got a lawyer. The lawyer and I have been encouraging her to settle amicably through an agreement but she insists she doesnt want a divorce but I am done, as in DONE, DONE. All I want now is my peace. We have two kids (under 10) who have been traumatized by all of this. This morning after an exchange of messages, she got angry and said she will get a lawyer and I should be ready for a court battle. She wants 50-50 custody though. My income is way more than hers but half of it is my side hustle which is unstable (but have 1099s) but I know the court system doesnt care and calculates everything. My lawyer said since she is financially stable and working, Maryland will not award any alimony or ask me to pay her legal fees but I am skeptical. It is really hard on me because I do not have family or friends around to support. I am all alone and fighting this. I am bracing for a long drawn complicated court case because she is very controlling and vengeful and doesn't care how traumatized the kids are. Any advice would be appreciated.
