Today I went to therapy and as we were talking rape victims who are men came up. I was talking about how a lot of men who get raped by women do not come forward because they will not be believed and will be made fun of.
He was shocked and had no idea. He asked me how would a man even be raped by a woman and asked if they were drugged. I said yes and/or drunk.
My therapist said he had never heard of that. That he had never had a man come in for something like that. I told him that is because of them not being believed and made fun of for not being able to fight the woman off.
I explained to him that it can be easily turned around on the man since “men can’t be raped”. I told him about horrible stories I have read about men with mothers who raped them, trafficked men, all of it. That these men can often be left homeless with no one to look out for them once they get out…they can loose everything.
I told him it wasn’t fair that there was nowhere for them. That everyone deserves somewhere to go to be safe. I don’t have anyone to go to…I am alone. And I’ll be damned if I sit back and do nothing about it for others.
It just made me realize not even a THERAPIST knows this happens to men. What men go through. So many people aren’t even aware of it or never took the time to take a step back and think about it.
(Oh and pplllsss don’t be mad at my therapist! He is a very sweet and kind man. He just doesn’t know and we are all ignorant of something. He was actually quite grateful I told him that and told me I have taught him something today. I deal with a lot of suicidal thoughts and he told me the fact I was able to teach him so much today showed how much I have to offer to this world. So I am trying my best).
I think that the education system is really failing at teaching teens about their bodies and each others. Part of the reason some women and men do not believe women can rape men is the total lack of understanding of the male body. How it works and such. Hell it goes the same for women.
We really need to push for a better education on our anatomy and involuntary body responses😔.
