The number of people, male and female, who infantilize grown women to justify their evil actions is truly appalling.

Adult women are competent, autonomous beings, who are perfectly capable of dealing with the consequences of their actions.

Most mass shooters have severe mental illness such as psychosis, schizofrenia, etc. and yet their actions aren't attributed to "what their scary illness did to them". In fact, last time I checked they're attributed to "male rage" and similar misandrist statements.

It would be interesting to see the reactions of the women defending her if they learned that Elliot Rodger had psychosis. Pretty sure they'd suddenly go back to "murder is murder, regardless of what your illness is".

Most women with post-partum psychosis don't murder children, just like most psychotic men don't become mass shooters. The more you use it as an excuse (and make laws preventing women who kill their children from being accused with murder) the more it'll happen.

Postpartum psychosis is a real thing. That could be what happened here. In fact, I'd argue it likely.

However, if a man did the same under the same circumstances, all the comments would be about how his mental health "isnt an excuse" and such.

Eh.... Postpartum psychosis is a real thing, birth can be traumatic as fuck and what comes after can really break your mind. However, I do find it interesting that people are readily leaping to the more sympathetic and diminished responsibility end of potential explanations, when with men the automatic assumption is that their motivations must lie at the most nefarious end of the range of possibilities.

When we know the facts about this case, then we can determine if this is really diminished responsibility, pure evil, or something else. Until that point, speculation is just a breeding ground for bias. Something many people on Twitter seemingly don't grasp.

What misandrists and misogynists fail to understand is that it's not about innocent until proven guilty, or guilty until proven innocent. It's about being factual, not generalising, being better than them rather than sinking to their level.

On one hand postpartum depression is real and incredibly serious.

On the other hand....the amount of times I've seen basically what amounts to "uwu pwoor wittle gwirl" reactions to women who have done HEINOUS THINGS is too damn high.

A temporary mental instability isn't a catchall excuse for monstrous, inhuman actions.
