I would like to give some value here on some things you can do specifically to keep you as mentally and physically healthy as possible, while the necessary time passes for you to be able to cope and deal with your divorce:

  1. Take away the self-blame involved in a separation. It is not solely your fault, and your ex very likely had their own flaws which contributed to the breakdown of the relationship.

  2. Be around family and friends. Having a solid support network, you can speak to and confide in is useful in helping you feel people are here for you.

  3. Stay active and exercise. Getting out in nature, planning tips with friends, or going regularly to the gym/classes will help you to keep your mind active and feel healthy in the body, which will alleviate the stress and cortisol in the body.

  4. Meditation and eating healthy eating. Meditation helps to create a space and gap in the thoughts that contribute to the stress of a breakup. Healthy mind, healthy body.

  5. Trauma & Stress release. Take time to vent your anger and frustration, rather than suppress it. To suppress it means to keep it in. Try the screaming into the pillow technique or take up boxing exercise where you can hit the punch bag.

  6. Understand it will get better and there is light at the end of the tunnel. As rough as this ride is - time is a great healer.
