Well, first of all a confident person wouldn't really worry about being perceived as a performer. A confident person are who they are, understand that people may have different perceptions about what that is and don't modify their behavior just because some people might perceive them as a performer. Particularly when the confident person knows and is confident that they're not merely performing, as in playing a role rather than acting according to internal beliefs and values.

So a confident person who feels like they want to be outgoing is just doing what they feel like doing, unburdened by what others may incorrectly think of them. Someone is always going to read you wrong no matter what you do anyways.

There's expressing yourself from a grounded place of 'relaxation' and there's expressing yourself using 'force'.

That's the difference between 'self-esteem' and 'trying'; there's being tense and pushing through because you feel you 'should', or there's being comfortable and congruent to your range of expression.

Between the two, your voice sounds different, you look different, there's a different energy behind what you're saying, etc. As soon as you feel you're pushing too far out of your comfort zone you become twitchy, your voice becomes restricted, you start overcompensating in many ways. It's subtle but also, not really.
