If you need to discredit a man in the court of public opinion, all you need to do is accuse him of sexual misconduct. Maybe even pay off a few women to come forward to back up your claim. Same if you’re a spiteful ex hoping to drag this man’s name through the mud. Or even just a nobody hoping to gain your 15 minutes of fame at the expense of a man’s reputation #metoo. Honestly I find it quite disrespectful and even harmful to real victims of SA, because people with critical thinking skills are less likely to believe their story. It’s like a mass case of the girl who cried wolf.

It doesn’t matter if he’s found innocent in a court of law, people will only remember the accusation because that is what gets the headlines. The accusations get tossed around like party favors these days so personally I hold my judgement until a formal conviction is made. But people look at you like you’re the rapist yourself for considering the possibility this man may be innocent.

I get those same looks when I’m out wearing one of my Marilyn Manson shirts in public and bumping his music on my stereo. Still no convictions and previous accusers recanting their stories after admitting Manson’s ex pressured them to lie. Yet I still have people trying to tell me he’s a rapist and I should burn his albums. If accusers admitting they lied isn’t enough to be absolved, what the hell is? I’ve been listening to his music for 30 damn years, a spiteful ex with no evidence isn’t going to change that.

The article headline is false.

Most importantly, it’s treating an accusation as proof of guilt, the article itself stating these men have been accused but not found guilty. Anyone can accuse anyone if anything, that’s not the same as someone being guilty. There is no finding of guilt to be considered. These men should be presumed innocent, not presumed guilty since no guilt has been proven.
Even if someone has committed a crime, it doesn’t mean that crime is being overlooked. It’s possible that negative actions are considered but deemed not to make someone unqualified for the job.
These men are nominees at this point, not done deal appointments. It’s quite possible the Senate may not approve Goetz for example. It’s disingenuous of the article to claim these people’s pasts weren’t considered, when Senate consideration hasn’t yet taken place.

There’s no journalistic integrity whatsoever in that misandrist trash article.

Actually, a friend (and by "friend" I mean "stranger I talked to online and got along kinda well with") of mine had a much more disturbing theory.

I was explaining to her what the behavioural changes that were frequent in male rape victims, including promiscuity, sexual recklessness and difficulty with intimacy, and she cut me off with a:

"So, the stereotype of how men act when it comes to sex?"

This actually made me pause.

"Did I say anything wrong?" she asked hearing me stay silent.

And I answered: "No, you might just be onto something, the implications of which I do not like."
