I realize that you had a LOT to get through in a short time, so well done for a very well thought out interview, and allowing her to speak without interruption! Great interview.

At 11.10 you ask Mary to finish her thoughts about holding boys back ("redshirting"), and she touches upon the idea of changing the curriculum for boys. It's a shame that the topic wasn't covered in greater depth - sitting still for 45 minutes is relatively easy for girls, but very difficult for boys simply due to anatomical differences in sitting bones. Marks for classroom behaviour and polite engagement with the teacher disfavour boys as a default (which you do touch upon yourself around the 20.30 mark)

At 12.50 you ask her "why are boys behind" and she says "lower levels of literacy/appetite for reading" but stops short of pointing out that book choices no longer allow the Tom Hardy style books, "war hero" and action books, instead focussing exclusively on "feelings" and "relationship" books. This turns boys off reading as it doesn't engage with their primary interests.

Thank you for your effort on our behalf. I still think there is too much apathy on the part of people for any meaningful change to occur, but hopefully enough pressure, and it will be different.
