Hey yall, wife wants a divorce and i noticed she’s asking spousal support in her petition. We’re both still good friends and im trying to go about this the best way possible without getting fucked over. A little back story, we’ve been living off my VA disability our whole marriage, I’ve been the soul provider. it’s only been recent that her and I have started working full time while physically separated.
I haven’t seen her in about 8 months and I’ve been working full time ever since just to keep my head out of the gutter and also to give her space and try to save the marriage, turns out she made her decision this month..I want to prevent her going after my check, I went from earning 4500 a month from the VA to around 10K a month while working full time. I’m pretty sure she only earns 4K a month at her job. We were married for 5 years.
I’m just trying to prevent me from paying extra alimony/ spousal support based off an income I’ve recently been making while physically separated since June of 2024..
I already have a lawyer, and so does she and it seems like those 2 are already going at it with eachother and I’m really trying to prevent any unnecessary lawyer fees or bad blood, while not getting completely fucked over.
Im in California as well. If anyone has any stories on how they handled a similar situation to this, I’d love to hear it.
