So about two months ago, my wife began pulling away from me. Again. It started when we were watching a show she wanted me to watch with me. She kept talking during the show, offering up small spoilers. She asked, “Is it annoying when I talk during the show?” She has asked me multiple times to be honest, so I answered her with, “Yes.” That was the last night she was communicative with me in a positive manner.
Not too long after this, she took my wet clothes in the dryer and put them back into the laundry basket, telling the housekeeper she has (despite not having a job herself) that she doesn’t pay her to do my laundry. I just so happened to decide to spend my Saturday doing laundry the very next day. Nothing was ruined, but it was several items worth a few hundred bucks easily. She took almost 2 weeks to admit it and gaslit me into believing she had no idea about it.
About two weeks ago, I couldn’t find something personal of mine, despite searching the area repeatedly. This was the day after the housekeeper had stopped by. I asked my older son if he knew if his mother had thrown it away, he said no. Because he’s lied for her in the past, as well as lied about school, I said that he would regret it if he was lying to me. Now I should say that I have never hit either of my kids, my wife, or anyone else. Even when I worked in a correctional facility for over 2 years, I never inflicted any harm upon anyone. When I said he would regret it, I thought that it was understood that it would be grounding, taking away his phone, and other similar punishments, as those are the norm.
Apparently, his mother overheard and went stupid with it and thought that I was physically threatening him. My own son had to calm her down and to convince her to not call the police. I got back home that evening after running out for a bit and she then asked if they were safe. I said I was, and that I was just upset I had lost an item. She immediately sent me $500, the estimated cost to replace the item I had missing. I never spent a penny of it, despite me never once accusing her of taking it.
The next week, the housekeeper came back and magically found the item. I sent her the $500 back, but she didn’t even say thanks. Instead, she got more cold and told me I just didn’t look hard enough, despite spending hours searching. It was allegedly in a couch cushion, which I had already searched at least twice.
She recently told me in a private conversation that she does not want to be married to me, but she won’t kick me out because I’m too handy to have around. I can watch both the kids and her great aunt, who we live with and take care of. She has no kids, so we were the only option really. She also has a lot of money and property that my wife will be inheriting. Which brings me to the latest craziness.
About 3 years ago, we began the moving process to move in with my wife’s great aunt who had gotten into a crash after stroke-induced dementia. We ended up renovating our house, selling it, and renovating a garage into an apartment for my wife and I to live in. The boys stayed in the main part of the house. I’ve been there to help care for her for the better part of two years, including getting her meds to her, making sure she’s eating enough, and driving her to her weekly hair appointments. Again, never any threatening behavior.
Now that she’s decided she wants me gone, she has created a document that I’m sure in her mind will hold water, but after looking at it, I realize how dumb it is and would get laughed out in court. So she has assigned herself the full-time caretaker of her great aunt, paying herself a sum of over $45k a year, with the aunt still paying for utilities and making my wife and kids legal residents.
She put a “declaration” in this that states I am not a legal resident (despite having my official address on my license being there for almost 2 years) and am only a “guest”, and they have the right to kick me out at any time. Also, my wife declared that she is the primary caregiver and I can’t make any decisions about my kids, and that she can kick me out if anyone feels threatened by me. She even had the audacity to get this notarized. But she didn’t have me sign anything.
Needless to say, I’ll be talking to an attorney very soon. I’m going to have to sell a lot, but I will need the money to pay for a retainer fee for sure.
I’ve been dealing with crap like this for almost 17 years, and I’m now at the point IDGAF. If I wasn’t drowning in credit card debt raising the family, I would already be out the door. I am working hard now to do so, and will start a second job soon to help make some extra money.
Just remember guys, don’t stick your dick in crazy.
