Mid 20's two kids under 5. In a bit of a tight spot here. I filed for a divorce a few months ago and just had my first court date with my lawyer (she doesn't have one), stbxw, and the family relations counselor where she disagreed with my proposal for 50/50 parenting time. She claims I should have them on weekends and that she'll still let me see them whenever I want during the week (yeah, right).I don't think there's much she can do to fight me for it because I'm with the kids most of the time right now anyway and have documented my activities/appointments with them and her attempts at alienation have been futile.

The problem is I work third shift right now and I need to get a 9-5 in order to show I can be around for the days I would have them. This is doable considering I graduate next month with my bachelor's degree but that would mean I would have to buy a new vehicle as well, because I get to take home a company vehicle for personal use as of now. We have no savings and all we have for assets is a vehicle worth $5K that she drives and my 401K worth about $10K (minus a $2K loan against it for my lawyers retainer that just ran out). And we have about $15k worth of debt. I only make $1 dollar more than her per hour which is good for CS.

I've toyed around with the idea of agreeing to weekends only right now in order to get myself financially stable and set up with a new car/job/apartment with the intention to get the parenting agreement changed to 50/50. I've heard this is easier said than done from my lawyer and guys on here so I was wondering has anyone been in a similar situation before and how'd it turn out? What's the pros and cons to each choice?
