Proximity effect and selection bias. Showing or indicating that a man has options makes him desirable.

Every time I bring up “my friend (her name)” in a conversation with another woman it almost instantly gets her attention. Even if it is a friend she cannot help but think of possibility of there being something else or maybe that my focus won’t be on her specifically.

I don’t like any of the dynamics of romance but they follow these really basic brained instinctual things.
