Ok guys, this one is lovely. Setting the stage: A so-called "Buddhist" center, overwhelmingly female. Last year.

Prelude: The vibe was... changing. Lots of "oh, wisdom is the female aspect in Buddhism" (conveniently forgetting that protection or drive are the male aspects). Then came the altar. We had pictures of our teachers for inspiration. The (mostly female) members voted to also hang a picture of our main teacher's wife. She wasn't a teacher. But hey, she was a woman. So, the center had basically morphed from Buddhist to... let's say, feminist.

Crime-Time: You can live at this center. One woman was moving out, breaking her 3-month notice. She offered me her room: "Try it for 7 days, extend if you want. April is yours, May we'll see." We had this in writing - I could extend the trial. "How generous," I thought. "Very Buddhist." So, I take her up on it. In front of the whole group, I say: "I'd like to extend my trial living period." Suddenly, she demands the full price for the month. Like our agreement (she proposed) never happened. This put me in a great spot, obviously, in front of the very people later deciding if I could move in. That's (probable) Crime #1: Making up facts to gain money. She got away with it. The final "agreement"? I paid 50%, the center paid 50%. (Still more than I wanted, but whatever.)

Just Breaking My Civil Rights interlude (Not Even Committing Crimes!): Oh, you thought the story was over? It's just getting started. Two women (who agreed to the 50/50 split) started calling me a "haggler" for... not paying the full price I wasn't supposed to pay. They also started telling me what to do in future situations (we're all "equal rank" there, officially). I wrote some emails asking, you know, "Why am I being called a haggler and dubious?" Next thing I know, I'm kicked out of the group chat. By an "official association resolution." This, naturally, was totally against my rights as a member. The topic wasn't even on the agenda, so I had zero chance to defend myself. (Also probably illegal defamation, but who's counting?) This (finally) stirred things up. An official meeting was called. The result: All penalties revoked! The matter is finished! We must never speak of it again, sigh of relief! Oh wait ...the slander continued in official meeting memorandums, and, shocker, I was not added back to the group chat.

A Crime To Finish Things Off: I went to another center nearby and (stupidly) talked about my grievances. A while later, someone there says: "I'm not sure you're allowed to meditate here. I heard you were forbidden to meditate at your home center." Which was a total, bald-faced lie. I was never forbidden. And stating wrong facts to damage someone's reputation? That, my friends, is a crime (in my country). 90% sure this came from a particular lovely women. So there you have it. Lovely people. And they got away with it. 100% recommended, 5 Stars!
PS: To be clear most Buddhist centers and are quite cool, but this one was clearly not.
