How do they show interest? I mean, if they smile at you, smile back and approach her. She will probably see you if you walk up to her.

If she does not sends any IOIs though, dont approach her at all. Theres a reason shes wearing earbuds + doesnt even look at you: She doesnt want to talk

If she's wearing headphones it's sometimes means they don't want to talk and have their guard up.

Otherwise I smile and tap my wrist in a "have you got the time?" motion. She'll have to take her headphones off to avoid shouting or sounding weird. If she shakes her head or just holds up the time on her phone she wasn't interested anyway.

Ask her what she's listening to. A response on music or a podcast or an audiobook unlocks a treasure trove of topics. If she's short on her response you may have to unlock more interest but at this point you're back in the regular conversation game.

Slightly off topic, but related: Have you guys noticed and/or been annoyed by the vast majority of girls always glued to their phones? Instead of being attentive to their surroundings and interacting with the much more interesting environment around them, they intentionally walk, stand, sit, lay, float in mid air for fuck's sake — devoting all of their attention to their screens. It's become a great skill of theirs, to seemingly avoid any interaction with others — representative of a sort of mild anti-social behavior.

Anyways, this habit of women really annoys me. When walking behind women down a stairwell or in a hallway, I'll glance at their screen to see what they're really doing — and it may not surprise you that they're really not doing ANYTHING. They're scrolling side to side on the home pages of their iPhone 6 or staring at their own message they sent an hour ago.

There's my rant for the day, would love to hear your opinions.

It's a risk - often people intentionally block out the world. If she wanted to talk, she'd take her headphones off while giving this so-called IOI.
