Since women generally have a higher life expectancy, it could be argued that men should be allowed to retire earlier. In many countries, however, the opposite is true. Men are often required to work five years longer than women before they reach the official retirement age.

The retirement investment planners also are in on the racket.

They do the numbers for you living to 99, generally. For men, they should probably be estimating for more like 80, because very few of us live much past that. Of course, this results in men planning for years of retirement they will never see. So you spend your life hoarding money, and you never get to benefit from it.

Who does benefit? Most likely some woman: a wife or sister.

This is why I intend to retire at 55, then die in my 70s. I’m smart enough to realize that a delayed retirement can quickly mean no retirement. If I get close to outliving my money, there are lots of ways of calling it a day.
