Father in WA State – Lost custody after false allegations, drowning financially, need advice

I’m a 31-year-old father in the Seattle / King County area and I don’t know where to turn anymore.

I was the primary caretaker for our kids for years while supporting my wife through medical school. I put my own career in the film industry on hold to make that happen. As soon as she graduated, everything changed.

She made false allegations against me and was able to get a protection order. I honestly thought the claims were so extreme that no one would take them seriously, so I tried to represent myself in that hearing. That was a mistake.

Now I’ve been:

Removed from my home

Limited to only 4 hours of supervised visitation per week

Required to attend domestic violence treatment (~$3,000)

Forced to pay $1,600/month for professional supervision just to see my kids

Being asked to pay child support while barely making ~$2,800/month

On top of that, I now have to figure out housing and rebuild my life from nothing.

What scares me the most is that I genuinely believe my ex is not mentally well right now. She has a history of serious mental health struggles and has stopped seeing her therapist. Since then, she has cut off close family members (including her own mother), and her behavior has become increasingly erratic.

Even her own parents agree something is wrong, and they are concerned about the kids.

I feel like I’m watching a slow-motion disaster and I have no ability to protect my children.

I don’t have the money for a high-end attorney, but my family may be able to help somewhat. I just don’t even know what kind of lawyer I should be looking for or what my next move should be.

I’m asking for:

Advice from anyone who has been through something similar

Recommendations for affordable or effective family law attorneys in King County

Any resources for fathers dealing with false allegations or protection orders

Guidance on how to document concerns about the other parent’s mental health in a way the court will actually take seriously

I’m not trying to “win” anything I just want to be a dad to my kids and make sure they’re safe.

Any help or direction would mean a lot right now.
