This is an old debate on TRP.

This post is less advice, and more your point of view (which is fine).

Men wanting marriage and children should check out Married Man Sex Life forums.

Oh no ! It's meant to be advice. See /r/killmarriage for more on the topic. This country, the US is hostile towards men. The family court system is an insidious for profit system that punishes men.

Depends entirely on the state. Many places in the US are remarkably fair when it comes to custody, child support, and spousal maintenance.

Laws and lawmakers can change don't forget. So if there's a state out there that's fair, they could become corrupted like the rest to increase their divorce litigation stats. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. As seen in this graph marriage is on the decline. http://cdn.static-economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/original-size/images/2014/02/blogs/graphic-detail/20140215_gdc352.png Hopefully it will be a thing of the past so young men won't get the crying whining "when are you going to marry me?" pressure. Everyone buy a copy of "Men on Strike" by Dr. Helen Smith and give it to someone thinking of getting married.

Many states are staunchly conservative on family matters and won't bow to liberal pressures. Do you really think Texas, for instance, is going to start emulating California?

[–]billiegoad -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

If the government really cared about families they'd order families to stay together instead of forcing our daughters off into the homes of step parents and siblings who often molest them. But whatever is good for society would likely be illegal. Marijuana for example. Whoever wants it will get it albeit at a hire price, criminals are enriched, and idealistic duddly do-right middle class voters get to pay taxes to chase down, prosecute, defend and incarcerate non-violent marijuana dealers and users.

Texas is a bad example. They have the highest number of men sitting in jail for not paying child support on children that weren't even theirs in the first place. Check out all my stuff on /r/killmarriage yeah it's disorganized but read. Divorce is a 50 billion a year business. Don't get married and get a vasectomy if you don't want to be a victim of the scams the family courts are running.

When you say a state is conservative on family matters it's like saying a state is tough on drunk drivers. Because they care about you and me? Hardly. 1000 people getting killed by drunk drivers is the government's excuse to lock up millions of citizens that didn't kill anyone driving drunk and slow and maturely down the road from their pub. It's about fees and creating cash cows for lawyers. Gun control is another. There's so many ways they'll screw me for protecting myself that I'd rather not own a gun and suffer the attack that the gun might have protected me from.

I'm not going to check out the subreddit you've been shamelessly self-promoting in this thread.

Texas has one of the most stringent spousal maintenance policies in the nation: need must be clearly and persuasively articulated, and the duration of alimony payments is quite short, no more than what is absolutely necessary for the struggling spouse to get back on his or her feet.

they'd order families to stay together instead of forcing our daughters off into the homes of step parents and siblings who often molest them.

Gonna need a source.

"Gonna need a source" ? It's all right there in /r/killmarriage but if that's too much trouble to refer to walk into any strip club and ask 10 strippers if they were abused as a child and who did it. Or date a child psychologist and ask her how some of her patients ended up being referred to her. What source do you think would actually see the light of day going up against a $50 billion dollar divorce industry?

A subreddit I'm not going to christen with my pageclick. Feel free to cross-post any sources you have.

Gonna need more than anecdote to take your claims seriously.

...said the divorce lawyer defending his cash cow.

[–]Confluenced 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This has been hit a number of times. Some of us want to, no, need to have kids. It's the ultimate failure not having your genes progress forward.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you don't reproduce, you are the first creature in your line, since the dawn of life on Earth, who has not done so.

[–]Confluenced 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Barring siblings to carry on the genes (or a twin), yup. Utter failure. I am like Tywin, get that family logo sticking for centuries.

[–][deleted] 2 points2 points2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

To be fair in regards to the fifth point, courts are becoming more and more dad friendly, especially in more liberal states and countries. I've seen about 5 custody cases in my family, extended family, and friends go down in the last few years, and 4/5 of the time the father ended up getting custody. Courts will take evidence whenever a father is more equipped and/or mentally capable than the mother for having custody pretty seriously. It's not the 1980's anymore, mothers don't just auto-win if the dad actually fights for it.

[–]robesta 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Child Protective Services is still 90+% female, most with women's studies degrees. A fake domestic violence complaint or piece order still equates to almost an auto custody win for women. To fight back, men still need to spend upwards of 30k. Then you have truly fucked up cases like this:

http://bergendispatch.com/articles/32762672/For-Some-In-Bergen-County-Longterm-Unemployment-May-Mean-Long-Term-Jail-.aspx

We're not even close to being out of the woods yet.

[–]billiegoad 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. States and judges receive kickbacks for every child support case they enforce and administer. Kickbacks from the Feds akin to highway funding. I've even heard of judges receiving bonuses. So they are incented to make one parent be paying the other.

[–]billiegoad 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

  1. The "Presumed Father's Act" enables any woman to put any man's name down on a birth certificate. DNA tests do not matter. Read the story posted on /r/killmarriage

  2. Adoption is not necessary to get stuck paying child support. Marry a woman with kids from a prior relationship? You're likely to be paying child support on kids not yours when the marriage ends and it will. I go to school with living breathing examples.

  3. Why does a dog lick it's balls? Thanks to the family courts rewarding bad behavior.

  4. Agree 100% See /r/killmarriage for more on that topic !

  5. Five kids from 3 paying BABY DADDIES !!!!? There's no incentive for a woman to stay married to one man. She can simply collect child support from multiple men. One loses a job, ends up in jail cuz he can't pay his child support ? No worries. There's 2 more paying baby daddies. What risk does the woman bear in having babies ? Does she risk jail time for non payment of child support ? No. What penalty does she pay for having the 5th child she can't support on her own ? More and more government services. Where's the financial aid for fathers that can't afford to pay child support ? No they end up in jail. It's to scare the rest of us into just paying child support so the rest of the tax payers aren't stuck supporting these baby breeders.

You make good points. Move to another country when you want to reproduce. Fuck this country. It's corrupt at every turn.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

yes, another country is where you want to marry. some still have very firm family values, women who would absolutely hate to ever get divorced, they do exist
