14 year metals investor here, precious metals would fit the bill.

There’s effectively few formal disclosures the US government will receive regarding the purchases of metal.

I believe it’s only after the 25th ounce of gold or at five figures for silver. If you spread your purchases out, you won’t have to worry about either restriction.

This plus developing a sudden (fake) ugambling addiction would frustrate any forensic accountant during a divorce as well. Terrence Popp has a few videos regarding this.

The other benefit of physical metals is that you can trade it 24/7, anywhere. I don’t need Wall Street or the CBOE/CME’s permission or their fake paper contracted price. I can sell it to my network, local shops, Reddit, Craigslist or online (prob the worst option.) This is not to be overlooked especially after the rampant manipulation and outright cheating as revealed by Melvin Capital calling in favors at every level of Wall Street from the brokers to the clearing houses. Remember 9/11? Bush declared a banking holiday for a week, markets and banks were closed for six days. ATMs ran out of cash, everything was frozen. Not metals though, gold and silver spiked and went back to their pre 9/11 price three weeks later. You could’ve unloaded your metal during the freeze and bought it back at a discount weeks later.

Having a Glock or three and some body armor helps too.

As always I'll make the case for gold coins or bars.

As you may have heard, a number of countries are making crypto illegal. India most recently. which means one may not be able to always access their money.

We've seen how Doge recently or GME was blocked from being traded. It comes problematic if there's any sort of shutdown of even something as simple as electricity or internet access as you cannot access it.

It's possible that the server power will be overwhelmingly be controlled by a particular nation state or computing cluster that takes over more than the "decentralized" nodes, especially if no one really feels like participating like they used to.

It has zero survivability in a cataclysm type event. Not only is magic ones and zeros not going to be trusted, but a stable electrical grid and global networking probably won't even be possible.

Gold however, survives a lot of these issues. For one, it is independent of pandemics, wars, societal break down, etc. The first thing that happens when armies are moving, problems are occurring, is people start turning their soon to be worthless cash currency into gold and world wide transactional money.

Everywhere on earth gold is valued, even in 3rd world countries. It has been a standard of exchange for thousands upon thousands of years, longer than several major religions. Everybody everywhere recognizes it.

Now what its worth? I can't say. If Godzilla is roaming around, ammunition will be the thing. It'll depend on local conditions. If you're just trying to hide wealth in a fairly portable form, gold works.

It's dissolvable, you can mix two parts hydrochloric acid and one part nitric acid and create aqua regia, which dissolves gold.

In fact during WW2 when the nazis were invading a scientist's nobel prize medal was hidden from the nazis by dissolving it and putting it back together later after the war. Who knows what's in the old jerry can of "gas" in your garage somewhere.

Or just bury it in the woods somewhere. Or disguise it as something else entirely.

The only "negative" is it is heavy, but you can exchange or sell it on pretty much every country on Earth. Here's some US historical prices

Now what's interesting is this shows how gold is money, while the dollar is a fiat currency. What that means is the dollar buys less and less stuff over time, whereas gold tends to actually keep up with inflation as its "value" tends to increase as the currency inflates.

Now like anything it has negatives. It's "heavy" if you're dealing with weight.

A kilogram of gold is $58,934 today, up from $20 some years ago. A bottle of water is about 500 grams, so two 16.9 oz. water bottles for each $58kg, so if you were trying to move a 32 pack of water bottles that would be a little less than 1 million dollars.

Like any "investment" it can go up and down with what people are willing to pay for it, so there's always that issue. Of course, bitcoin suffers a similar problem in "value" based on speculation.

You can buy American Eagle US Mint 1 oz. coins online or in from coin dealers for a little over $1800 dollars.

It can add a little diversification to your portfolio (or silver) so you've gotta a little hidden wealth for fun.

An investment portfolio is tracked, but unlike bitcoin, gold is almost impossible to "track" unless you left finger prints on it. If emergency cash is needed you can go to pretty much any strip mall (in the US) and sell it for most of its value.

As far as protecting your assets, the best thing to do is make sure no one knows jack shit about them in the first place. You don't tell someone you have gold, in fact you might want to not even have it on your property.

Of course you shouldn't do that, as that would be illegal if you got divorced. So only do that in Minecraft.

Live a minimalistic lifestyle, so you can bail any geographic location when local laws try to fuck you over.

The only HQ you need is in the virtual world.

You don't need to disclose anything to anyone else.

Look, I agree with everyone saying diversify investments, but dont stear clear of crypto just because its "bits and numbers and would be nothing in a cataclysmic event". The same could easily be said about gold. What the fuck are people who have gold/vs people who dont have gold gonna do? Magically start repurposing gold? Itll be the same situation. The population will start trading and bartering again. Diversify into all possible avenues in my opinion.

No, the government can’t get your crypto unless you let them. As far as divorce, I don’t know. I do know you don’t pay a penny on tax until you cash out USD into your bank account.

Maybe that mgtow_Bitcoin gentleman may have better answers.

There's no silver bullet and we don't know what the future holds. I guess if there willing to steal an election there willing to do anything, shut down cypro, take money out of ours bank, go in your safety deposit box, confiscate your retirement funds.

I do think all major currency's will fail in our lifetime. Good news is we will have some warning. Japan and euro will fall 1st and 2nd. Next the USA. I just dont know how fast it will happen.

It's best to split your investments across multiple things. I personally would recommend around 70% should be in stocks or ETF funds ( a collection of stocks).You should have around 25% divided stock (eg coca cola or AT&T), 50% blue chip stock( guarantee growth) and then the remainder in undervalued high risk high reward stocks. An alternative is an index fund such as the S&P 500 or Nasdaq 100 ( these average 10% return per year consistently)

Crypto is good, so have some if you can, commodities are decent too ( but more for retaining value not compounding value)

If possible real estate is a good pic because you can either flip the property or rent it out.

Im not an expert so feel free to do what you like but the essential message is don't put all your eggs in 1 basket.

Gold is real money. Bitcoin is even moreso real money. When someone "comes after you" do you want pounds and pounds of easily accessible gold in your safe at home or a cold wallet for crypto that isn't easily found? I like the idea of gold but the physical weight and aggravation of it makes me love crypto. However, this is an argument that boils down to emotion. Some love gold and some love crypto.
