A little background: I had just watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and it got me thinking about something. Where are the statistics that break down rape by family member vs. rape by stranger or acquaintance?

My point: I've been doing a little research about the subject of sexual violence and I noticed that on the FBI's website, it categorized all acts of forcible rape together, regardless of whether it's a family member or not. It also seemed to imply that only females can be raped (Not a big surprise for this community).

What I'm looking for are statistics based on separating rape by stranger/rape by family member.

To me, it is important and has the potential to change the dialogue and deepen the understanding of sexual violence. For instance, what if it was discovered that a young woman is more likely to be raped by her divorced mother's boyfriend (or a member of the boyfriend's family) than by any stranger she runs across on the street?

It could also be just as likely that the opposite is true. I am simply looking for data to analyze.

Does anyone have any information on this subject or any knowledge of where to start looking?
