The kid tried to kill himself in 7th grade, but it had nothing to do with his mom trying to turn him into a little girl at home, and all to do with the "masculinity mask" imposed on him in school? He probably senses the animosity his mother had for his gender from an early age.Poor little kid.

Sounds like she had a lot to do with putting her son in that situation by trying to force her feminized idea of boyhood on him. It probably didn't help that she taught a class at his middle school, being an overbearing mother who's constantly underfoot like that can actually lead to a lot of teasing. It sounds like she got in the way of her son learning how to interact and fit in with a group of other boys. Boys rip on one another, and growing up you have to learn how to fit into that dynamic, and when a neurotic, overly involved Feminist mother doesn't let her son learn the ins and outs of that dynamic, it's only going to cause a lot of alienation.

I find respect for the author in some of what she says, but I dislike that she attributes the loving way she is raising her son to her feminism. I also deeply dislike the title.

Feminism as it is today disgusts me. It is not the end-all-be-all solution for equality because it is being taken too far. In the hunt for egalitarianism, they've overshot the goal.
