Familial & Domestic violence is a pretty sick thing, and we should universally condemn it, regardless of sex, gender, race, or other detail. However, I want to bring to your attention two recent cases with dramatically differing results.

The victims:

Both were victimized by someone they knew well. Janay by her future husband, and Jay-Z by his sister-in-law. Both were assaulted and we have evidence. One was knocked unconscious, one was hit a large number of times. Janay was considered complicit in the assault by the police for having assaulted Ray Rice, and was arrested by the police for the same. Jay-Z was not considered complicit in his assault.

The perpetrators

Ray Rice has been suspended indefinitely from professional football, and had his contract terminated. This is on top of being suspended previously for two games, and having to go to a domestic violence course for his legal woes. He can no longer earn an income in his vocation. His career may be over. Additionally, his ability to have a gun may be impacted due to Public Law 104–208 & 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)

Solange Knowles has not even been interviewed by the police, or the DA. No adverse action has been taken against her. She has gotten off with her abuse having no canceled contracts, no damage to her music career, and no police problems. She can still carry a gun without limitation

Conclusions

Male victims, and potentially even more so male victims of color, are not treated as equal value to female victims

Female offenders are not penalized so severely as male offenders, particularly male offenders of color

The Law, and our society discriminate on sex, gender, and color.
