I landed on Beijing pretty late couple nights ago. While getting off the train station heading to my hotel, I noticed a girl standing in the middle of the stairs. Asian, 8/10. Headphones on, looked pissed, leaning against the wall with her hands folded. Completely closed off body language. I passed her by.

When I got to the stop of the stairs, I was like "you know what I haven't approached anyone today. Fuck it. Let at least get one in". I turned around. Walked straight to her. Nothing fancy. Just the old asking for direction opener. I happened to have the location for the hotel pulled up on my phone.

To my surprise, she was the nicest person ever. Basic English so she went out of her way to walk me to the hotel. Along the way we had a short conversation. I stopped on the side of the road on purpose when I knew we were getting close to my hotel. She stopped and hung around for a few more minutes as we talked more about favorite movies and travel.

I asked if she wanted to grab a drink and a bite to eat. She said she was supposed to meet up with her friend, that's why she was waiting at the stairs. I said she can bring her friend but she declined and said her friend are shy around strangers. We just exchanged IG and went on our way.

A lot of time. Our brain just make all these assumptions and stop us from doing things we want to do. Sometimes you just gotta do it without any expectations. Who knows, you might be surprised.

PS: Before any of you going with the whole "white guy in Asia countries" thing, no I'm not white. I'm just your typical Asian dude.
