My wife told me she has been grieving and checked out of our marriage for quite some time. She has been sleeping in another room for months. She has said she considers us to be separated and wants to eventually be divorced. We have been married for 7 years and have a 5 year old son. We have been living in the USA for 3 years now. She is on a work visa while my son and I are on dependent visas. She works and makes significant money so I agreed to pause my career and take care of our son and other duties for a few years. At this point reconciliation seems to be off the table, though that's what I desperately want. My only other option for the good of my son and I is to move back home where I would have family support and can go right back into my career.

Does anyone know of a similar situation? Any advice as to what I can/should do? General comments?
