Men are "winners" when they have the most people respect them and follow them. Women "win" when they have the most people like them. We can get what we want but we have to do it with an entirely different set of rules, because our goal is different. So while I'm not familiar with this book, other than your outline, my general advice to women is to take any good advice for men, and do the exact opposite.

Here's a summary of the 48 laws: http://cgt411.tech.purdue.edu/covey/48_laws_of_power.htm

It's like reading a foreign language to me, I couldn't read past the third one.

I like the 48 Laws (even if most of it is just Machiavelli and Sun-Tzu in list form). I like the holistic life-betterment prerogative of TRP and these laws work well socially in general. I would imagine this would be good for a political family (Margaery is an example of this working, Cersei is an example of this failing), or a fundraising chair... there are plenty of ways RPW could possibly apply this to daily life outside of petty bullshit (like water cooler rivalries) to their own benefit without being less feminine.

Many high-value men need more than just arm candy by their side for things-- having a wife with high social status (think old money marriages) can make the commitment worth his while.

On the first look, that 48 Laws text is freaking difficult to adopt. Some stuff makes sense, but other stuff goes against everything I was striving for lately. Just too much pretending... However, it's only the first impression, might change opinion.

There's gotta be a guide on how to deal with difficult people in the workplace without devolving into power games meant for politicians.

Many things seem counterintuitive, but they're effective. EG: if you want something and can't have it, ignore the fuck out of it.

It would be an error to attempt to use a man's strategy as a woman

yes.

we dont care what you do at work or with women, we are about heterosexual romantic relationships

I would agree with Sy87. TRP has a dominant focus on sexual relations but that stems from the original "red pill" that men and women are biologically different and behave different ways and respond to the same things differently. That truth applies to just about all facets of life, some more so than others obviously. Career, friendships with other females can still be part of a RPW's life and can be conducted in better or worse ways in accordance with RP ideas. Whether the woman in question is heterosexual or not - for example plenty of gay guys come to TRP to find analogies to their dealings with other gay men.

ok, how would you conduct female friendships within "rp ideas"?

[–]killing_the_hamster4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Picking which women to be/stay friends with in the first place - if we take a RPW's goal as being to attract and keep a great man, then if you're friends with a bunch of drunken skanks it will ultimately reflect poorly on you as well and likely influence your own behavior at some point for the worse. (Full disclosure, I'm currently having a hard time finding potential friends who don't fit this category.)

If you already have female friends who aren't drunken skanks: the idea is having and maintaining a support network, for a multitude of reasons. Aside from the obvious reasons that friendships are healthy, so you don't have to use your man as an emotional tampon, plus a woman's social connections do contribute to her man's social standing as well. Having other women to encourage good behavior and be encouraged by is crucial, especially during tough times (this subreddit itself is proof of that). In a world where RP tenets did not hold true, other men besides your husband/bf could fill these roles too, but in reality if a woman is close to other men it will cause way too many relationship problems 9 times out of 10. Best case scenario it is a red flag for a good quality man when a woman only or mostly has male friendships. In a nutshell.

Right, because It has nothing to do with rp ideas. That would be the reason
