You are already using this money as a weapon and you are badmouthing your husband. You will be divorced in less than a year, so I guess I'd hang onto the money since you are willing to let it rip your relationship apart.

I cant imagine coming in to over 2 million and before I even tell my husband I ask an online forum for advice. Shits telling.

"he's got funny ideas how to handle money"

whether he is bad at handling money or you are untrusting of his leadership, you have quite a large issue here before you even decide what to do with the money

Do you think his tune may change now that y'all have a use for these things? Honestly, if I were you I would find a boutique financial advisor (they have fewer clients and can give you more attention). They can also direct you to a CPA so you don't get slammed with taxes. Do y'all file taxes jointly?

I'm sorry about your grandma. Mine passed a few years ago at 100 and I somehow felt she would be around forever. Best wishes.

I trust his leadership with what we have, it's just a very large sum of moneydon't trust his leadership

Wow sorry about your loss but congratulations about your inheritance. The thing is, this is a big deal and both of you need to be ready for the internal mental change that needs to come with such a sudden increase in assets. Most people who win the lottery go right back to their original comfort zone because they just didn't know any other way.

You now have enough money to afford a really good financial advisor (and it will be worth paying for a good one). If you and your husband can get on the same page, meaning that neither of you really know how to handle this much money, then you can agree to both out your trust into a third party expert. This person is better equipped to tactfully tell your husband that $2.5 mil cannot simply sit in a savings account, and will give much better advice for how to invest it than you personally could either. And they will know how to honor a pre-nup without making it a trust issue.

You are a team, so don't let money get in between you, and remember that you need to trust your husband to be the captain and to handle big decisions with the finances. This being said, you can make it your mission to help you both get educated about wise ways to invest.

Edit: Also, I highly recommend you both read the book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind and even attend the free Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar. Best thing my SO and I have ever done for our financial success and really helps couples get on the same page. Wish they taught us this stuff (and TRP!) in school instead of all the other BS.

I pulled this because its not particularly an RPW subject and the amount of AWALT, non RP tit for tat advice thats going to pile up doesnt help anyone.

If you keep it separate and deal with it in ways he ideologically opposes then you are basically a traitor to him, like i'm sure he already figured all women were when he asked for a prenup.

Basically, you have shown that this money is going to tear your marriage apart. You dont respect his ideas, and now those ideas are going to run so counter to what you want to do with YOUR money that you will start opening your mouth to him disrespectfully, you will see him in a new light, you wont need him, youll want him to dance to your tune. Resentment over the prenup will come out. If you keep this money separate you might as well file for divorce now

You keep talking about your husband like he isn't to be trusted and kind of wacky; let's see if I can dig up some of your statements.

Not because I don't trust him but he's got funny ideas about how to handle money.

We live comfortably but he refuses to invest.

I trust his leadership with what we have, it's just a very large sum of money. He doesn't trust financial advisers and would be upset with mutual funds and long term investment stocks because he hates wall street.

It's all "I'm not racist but..." sort of statements. "I love him, but..."

He doesn't even sound like the type of person who is going to blow all of your money or anything; why are you going so far out of your way trying to protect it from him? It's like the money means more to you or something.

I'm not being mean - I'm pointing out that you don't sound like you trust your husband, especially with money. Why would we care what you do with your money or whether you keep it separate or anything? The only thing I care about is the negative way you talk about your husband.

Edited to add that if he didn't have a problem with the first inheritance, why would he have a problem with this one? He sounds like a pretty chill guy who doesn't really care about your money; why are you stressed about this? Why all the drama?

Oops, I guess I'm mean and you are a delicate hothouse flower that needs people to sugar-coat everything. I guess we just won't get along :(

No I say it on every post that's not a red pill issue or that generates non-RP advice
