Oh wow! That’s must be so goddamn frustrating! I remember every second guy I matched with on OLD apps asking me “Soooo... what’s your background?” (They’d try to be subtle instead of outright asking me where I was from; it’s a bit hard to place me). The first few times it didn’t occur to me they wanted to know my ethnicity, so I always assumed they were asking for my research background (My bio mentioned that I worked in science). Once I realised what that question actually meant, I’d unmatch immediately when someone asked me that. It was a good way to weed out all the racists and the fetishisers

I honestly don't mind answering that question after getting to know someone, but jesus when it's basically the first thing a guy says it's so fucking gross.
