I kind of don't like the automoderation bot. Sometimes I use short phrases or one word answers in a debate. Example: OP: "So you really don't think fast food workers deserve $15/hr?" Me: "That's correct." Then they can choose to come up with a counter-argument, to which I will respond with a more comprehensive answer.

Remember from your english classes? Long-windedness is not a virtue. Character minimum encourages long-windedness.

The point isn't to give you a minimum, but to encourage good conversation. Try a full paragraph which is typically 3-5 sentences at least.

Adding one line saying something like "that's what she said" no matter how interesting isn't really a positive and thus useless to the conversations. We already have a lot of misinformation and crap here due to the eager efforts of ignorance.
