Anglicisation of my Eastern European name? Raised in England.

I need an objective opinion on this.

Here's my objective opinion: You want to change your name. If you were happy to keep it as it is, you wouldn't have posted here looking for any source of validation.

Life is too short to be unhappy. If you'd be happier going by a different name, or legally changing it, or whatever, then do it. Don't ask us for permission.

If it helps, I have seen EE coworkers in the UK using their given name, in your case Ylli, in all official documents and so on, but go by an English version of their name casually to make things easier for them, as if it were a nickname. This allows people have both benefits: to keep their original name but also avoid butchered pronunciations or questions when not necessary

Examples: Andrei/Andy, Alexei/Alex, Zsofia/Sophie

It's also pretty common with other "difficult" names, like Chinese. Try it out as a nickname and see how you feel. I did this while working in the UK and thought the casual/anglican-ized name versus formal/traditional name was a good combo. I would suggest for you maybe Will, Bill or Lee. You can also try similar anglican sounding names that are close to your surname.

I can also tell you of a co-worker with a "difficult" name that we didn't want to say wrongly so we just baptized him Mr. Waitrose (long story, it's a fancy-smanchy supermarket in London or something)

When I went to school, there were plenty of Chinese international students. The ones who had names that were easy to pronounce kept them, but those with more difficult names would simply go by common American names, such as Sam, David, Amy, etc.

It's good to be exotic - just not too exotic. Everything that distinguishes you does so either to your benefit or not. It'll be to your benefit if you own it, it won't if you don't.

You can be a John among millions, or one of few Yolo, or whatever your backwards Eastern European name is again.

When you make her say your name you know she'll not be thinking of another.

If you are attractive, stand out. If you're not, become attractive or stand in.
