Depends on what she thinks.

Of course she'll say that she doesn't care about what income you make when you prompt her, but at the end of the day what matters is how comfortable she is with being the main breadwinner - if she starts commenting on your earning prospects or tries to encourage you to be more ambitious, expect the worst.

But even if she's perfectly fine with it (which, makes no mistake, is very rare), being attractive in other regards can't hurt. For example the funny thing about being a dedicated doctor is that you hardly have the time to lift extensively.

First of all, premed means she's a long ways off with: med school (4 years) + residency (3-5 years) + a few years of paying off student loans and THEN she may have access to a high income. So it could be 10 years away depending on the direction she goes but it's a long road to the top if she wants to rock n roll. Unless she has outside funding she will be broke for years as she does her work.

Mechanical engineers start lower but can definitely move up to higher income brackets, promotions, etc.

On a more serious note, you said: "60-70k AT BEST." Don't undermine yourself. Maybe your starting salary is 60-70k, which is actually pretty good, but with more years of experience and hard work under your belt, you can easily get to 6 figures.

Also just because she's a premed doesn't mean she'll actually get to med school.

I know a girl who did premed, applied to medical school, didn't get in. Now she works as a front desk person or some shit like that.
