Yeah the norm is texting. I used to call, just because I hated texting, but girls will often get weirded out by it, especially younger ones. Everything is about convenience and comfort nowadays, and calling you back takes too much energy for a lot of them.

A man is someone who does what he wants, when he wants, how he wants. If you want to call do so, if you'd rather text, go ahead.

Become attractive - fit/muscular/well-dressed/charismatic. Up to a certain point try out different social strategies to see what works.
Once you're getting laid, apply your personality uniformly and don't cater to individual girls. Cater mostly to your own desires.
Once you struggle to fit in extra girls into your schedule apply the minimum amount of required effort

If you only met briefly, or have only met online (dating sites, Tinder, etc.) definitely text.
