I found TRP through the bash post from the EMSK reddit page last month and was really intrigued by the stuff I read right from the jump. The more I've read from endorsed posts, the sidebar and The Rational Male, the more I realized how completely blue pill I've been for far too long. My main goal and question is in regards to turning my life around with TRP in regards to my marriage and my overall life, but first I wanted to explain how heavily my life has been BP brainwashed.
My parents divorced when I was a toddler and my father moved across town, leaving me to mainly live with my mother and two sisters. This dynamic of at least three women in the house at any given time was pretty much the norm until I moved out after turning 18. At certain times over the years, several other female relatives would move in and out of this house. I was the youngest child of the group... The conditioning started young. As I got older and dated, I got a lot of remarks from people: "You have no brothers? ALL sisters? You're really going to make some lucky woman so happy one day!" What the fuck? Young me heard this and thought, "I'll be a catch, a real catch for someone and we'll be happy together." What a bullshit thing to think so young and to carry around for so many years.
As a teenager I had several hard hitting cases of Oneitis through high school and my father always had the same advice for me, "You're way too young to be worried about that, kid. You've got years of pussy in front of you" or his go to, "Women are a dime a dozen and on every corner." I never realized it until reading a a lot of stuff here, but my father was TRP through and through... If I had listened to half the advice he gave me about women when I was younger, I'm sure I'd be a lot different of a man now.
After college I went full beta bux for my high school girl friend that had been living with me. Refused to move to another city to follow my career opportunities, settled for a bs job to pay some bills and thought we'd just ride it out together. Then AF happened. I got insecure and jealous... Just like that, she was gone. I remember she called it off quick, like ripping a band-aid off and never turned back. After this my dad gave me more TRP style insight... And I didn't give it proper thought or consideration. I became the ex's orbiter, clinging to just about anything we had before that, hoping for something to come back into play... It was pretty fucking pathetic. It was time to change shit up... My family had already all moved out of state, including my father, all to different areas. I sold everything I had that was even remotely worth something, packed two duffle bags and got on a plane.
I ended up in a college town, working a job at a shopping center full of college girls. I was flirtatious with girls at work, out at bars and concerts... I was getting attention like I never had before and started to develop the beginning of a plate spinning setup... Which I promptly turned into a LTR without taking advantage of the plate spinning possibilities. The relationship started out great - she was, and is, still incredibly beautiful, we had a great sex life and for what it seemed, everything was great. After five years of being together, we got married and we're now coming up on our third anniversary... She's quit her job twice now to pursue her dream career, both times with my full beta approval. Each time it started getting harder and harder to make ends meet while her income was sparse, until I have to practically force her back into a job.
Now I don't make a lot of money, but I do make decent enough money to live comfortably if I was supporting only myself, or if I had a full time working wife... Yet I find myself struggling through bills now while she is "considering taking a part time job" that was offered to her with a pretty fucking good pay rate and benefits package. My stress level is through the fucking roof and now we're hardly having sex or even exchanging any slightly intimate contact. It's like a fucking room mate living on my dime, sharing my bed and talking about all the grandiose things she wants to do and have while I'm trying to make sure there's money to keep the power on. The kicker: I gave her total freedom to get us here by telling her I'd support whatever it is she wanted to do - game over right then. And it took three years to get me to realize how hard I was making shit for myself.
Now I've found TRP and I've spent the past month reading and researching everyday... Bought a copy of The Rational Male, read No More Mr. Nice Guy (and holy shit was that eye opening) and I continue to read each day.
I want to turn this situation on its head, build frame and take control of my fucking life again. The struggle I feel is figuring out how to properly implement this into my marriage. I'm at a point where my anger is telling me to walk the fuck away and just do everything new.
Have any of the endorsed or long time TRP guys here had success in turning around their marriage through what they've learned here?
