In today's world it's social validation mostly. A woman is expected to lock down an alpha man while she's still young and attractive. She gets to parade you around in front of her friends and show them the alpha she finally domesticated. It's not tingles, she can get that from Chad. It might be providing, although most women now are either hellbent on acting like they provide for themselves or simply feel entitled to your money (and the money of her beta orbiters) regardless of commitment.

Keep in mind, if a guy gives up commitment too soon or too easily, then it isn't really an offer. If you're beta, you offer neither commitment nor tingles, because you are playing the strategy of locking down a woman, which signals to her that you're offering something of little to no market value.

Instinctually, women know that their looks are going to fade and will be useless at getting them anywhere after the wall. They want to secure a man for support and security. They want to feel safe. They don't have as much testosterone driving them to take risks.

Other then showing you off to her friends and family I also find that women especially older want a man to be there for them when there is problems. They want someone to fix their car or squash the spiders. So many women I know could learn to take care of themselves but they hate doing it. For example a GF absolutely hates pumping her gas. She has a phobia and bribes me with dinner if I will pump her gas

Outside of plates I take it? Well that depends on the people involved.

To say it's time, tingles, providing or validation - would depend on whether she values those things as commitment. I'd say it's the consistent investment by either party based on what is mutually desired and agreed upon.

It can be quantified if it's in the sense of an agreed romantic commitment, 'we shall have sex this often' or 'you come to mine twice a week and I go to yours twice a week'.

I don't think commitment can be objectively quantified though, the value we place on the actions of others is quite subjective.
