I am a TRP man and not a TRP woman, but I will try to offer my advice.

I'm not attracted to him when he's high or any in any way intoxicated. My attraction and appreciation for him just fled all at once. I felt so totally turned off, I almost wanted him to leave. I didn't know how to process the feelings or what to do. For the next 40 hours until he left, I was irritated by almost everything he did, even when we were sober. I hid it as well as I could and made sure I was making effort to be gracious to him and fulfill his needs, but I couldn't shake my bad mood and I'm sure he picked up on it. This perspective shift has opened my eyes to a lot of issues that I have buried.

You obviously value self-awareness and self-control in a man, and when he is intoxicated, he is displaying the very opposite and losing frame in your eyes. This is nothing to feel bad about.

Making silly noises and sound-effects - I found it very immature and unbecoming of a man, whereas normally I laugh. Being wishy-washy with answers - when I ask his opinion he says 'Whatever you want to do' or similar. Not taking direction whatsoever and expecting me to make and execute all our plans. Transparent/clumsy attempts at subtlety, and indirect requests, instead of being straightforward.

Considering how you used to find these kinds of things tolerable or even positive, something has changed within you. If you were madly attracted to him (as I'm sure you once were), you would tolerate these things. Heck, if you were madly attracted to him, you'd probably tolerate him taking a dump on the dining table, just because that's how attraction works.

In other words, you should take a look at what may have caused your lack of attraction to him. Once you lose respect for a man, anything he does can be perceived as stupid, immature and so on. You're on the path towards resentment.

The absolute worst was when I was briefly checking my emails and he came out of the shower, into my study, and whined at me, 'Touch [my] bits... just a little... please'. I was so incredibly turned off and I'm afraid I didn't hide my feelings as well as I could have. I was speechless. (For those who might ask - our sex life is fantastic in both quality and quantity, and at this point we had already had sex 3 times and he'd gotten two or three blowjobs in as well.)

He's displaying traits of submissiveness, and considering how you've lost respect and attraction to him, you find such behaviors disgusting. I'm still trying to figure out what the trigger might have been.

The second worst was when we were at a party on Saturday night hosted by one of my work colleagues, with several people from my work in attendance, including my closest work friend. My SO was chatting and getting along well with her, and about 1.5 hours into the party he asked to speak with me out in the hallway. He asked me if we could have a threesome with my closest work friend. I thought that was ill conceived and in very poor taste, but I wasn't angry or jealous as such. I said I didn't think it was a good idea because I work with her, and I'm not sure she is anything except straight. He said he thought it was a good idea because she 'meets the right criteria'. I said I was not going to make a decision then and there, and if anything it would not happen that night. He accepted this and we rejoined the other guests. Five minutes later he was whispering in my ear trying to convince me again to have a threesome with my good friend. I did not appreciate this behaviour at all.

Had you still been madly in love with him, the outcome could have been very different. Although I personally believe that he was acting like a complete moron, I doubt this counts as a factor in your loss of attraction. It serves more as evidence that you have lost attraction already.

ne thing I was particularly focused on this weekend is that he does not have a job, so I pay for everything (he is finishing study towards a degree currently). This has recently become more and more of an issue. I have become used to spending money for both of us and sharing everything, and now that I am trying to draw the line, I it very is very much a 'two steps forward, one step back' process. I have enabled this for the past 1.5 years thinking it was harmless. It is not. I have almost nothing to show for the last 1.5 years of full-time work, 55k a year, because I spend so much. And my SO now feels comfortably entitled to even the smallest things I buy for myself. If we go to a movie he won't buy popcorn because he claims to not be hungry - I do because I love popcorn - and then he shamelessly helps himself to my food and ends up polishing it off within the first half hour of the movie. This is just a small example. We have spoken about this before, and at the time he seems to find it very reasonable and will agree with me, but the next time I buy a nice bottle of whiskey he will help himself to half the bottle without asking. If I remind him of our conversation he will stop, only to try again within minutes, or to give me an excuse such as 'I was only pouring your next drink' or 'I was only arranging this mouthful of food for you'.

The feminine role has become the provider. Alpha fux, beta bux, and he seems to serve neither of those two roles. Understand that as a woman, you find the provision of resources attractive. The fact that he is both beta and unable to provide is naturally a huge turn-off for you, instinctively.

Even him saying 'I love you', and kissing me on the cheek, was anathema to me this weekend.

As I already said, anything he does will seem stupid. You absolutely resent him.

I say all this not to badmouth my SO but to give a clear image of the situation. I understand that some may disagree with how I've spoken - please know I feel ashamed about saying anything negative about my SO, but I don't know how to illuminate the situation without specifically saying what is affecting me.

There is no reason to feel ashamed at all. In fact, I am extremely impressed. You are in perfect alignment with your emotions and you refuse to go into denial. You see the situation through a lens of realism and you are focused on repairing it. I can do nothing but applaud you.

I don't know if I have an objective enough view of myself to say where my fault lies in this or how I have contributed. I think if anything my fault lies in enabling behaviour that I find concerning, instead of addressing it. I also think I could have avoided this by not agreeing to see my SO for the weekend, when I felt like I would have appreciated time to myself. I feel stressed that I have to consider trying to amend things at all - I want my SO to be self-aware enough to recognise unbecoming behaviour and correct it, without me having to direct him. I want to feel safe with someone who I know is capable of decisive action. I feel a distressing drop in my level of respect for him, and it is astounding how quickly that can escalate to contempt. I don't want that.

Although it's absolutely terrifying, you need to tell him the exact words that you have told us here today. If that does not work, show him this thread. The only way to awaken a beta is with a relentless reality-check. Even if you do tell him these things, it will be very easy for him to misinterpret it. If you tell him to be more masculine, he will become what is considered masculine in the eyes of a feminized society, i.e not what you actually want.

My overall question point is that I need advice. I need to know what I am doing wrong, and I would appreciate any tips on how I can best support my SO and be a good partner to him, including encouraging behaviour that fulfills him (being a masculine leader) and gently, graciously discouraging behaviour that depletes him (immature, thoughtless behaviour) in a way that is not harsh, abrasive, or makes him feel unappreciated or unmanned.

You haven't really described how you treat him, so it would be nearly impossible to point out what you are doing wrong, if you are doing anything wrong at all, that is. You value masculinity. You want a man, not a woman in man's clothing. This is instinctive to you, and it would be a terrible thing to feel shame because of it.

I think the very best course of action if all else fails is to show him TRP, and give him an ultimatum: Either swallow it, or you'll walk. This isn't morally wrong. What is wrong is for you to stay with a person you resent and are completely incompatible with. If you wish, I will offer my guidance to either of you if it is desired. Send him to some TRP therapy with ol' Xerces.

I wish the both of you luck, and I once again applaud you for your decision to improve your relationship. It is far from impossible.

Very good and thought out post lord, props!

[–]mayhare0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

OP here - the account under which I originally posted was banned. I want to thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm actually relieved that the first reply I read wasn't someone lambasting me for bad behaviour.

I think the trigger for this perspective shift was something that crept up on us. In the beginning of our relationship he was somewhat emotionally detached and in control of himself at all times. I was definitely the one chasing him and trying to please him. I can't say I really enjoyed this period of time, as it caused me a lot of emotional turmoil, but I came out the other side a better person. After about a year to eighteen months we really settled into our relationship and had a strong and equal connection to each other. Lately the push-pull, yin-yang balance has been shifting, and now it seems he is the one chasing and trying to please me. I enjoy it to an extent, but not when it becomes the entire basis for our relationship. I think in a sense my problem is that I know I fought so hard for this relationship, and now that my SO's behaviour has changed I feel cheated, like I put in all this time and effort only for him to flip the script and turn our relationship into something that is not ideal for me.

My last boyfriend and I broke up because I nursed him through a mental health episode, and when it was over, I was so tired and done with the nurturing role. I had no problem being there for him, and I would do it again and again for someone I love with no questions or complains. But when it was all over I felt like a mother or a babysitter, and my ex did not show any inclination to return our relationship to what it was prior to his breakdown.

The biggest problem in all this is I cannot fathom a loving and supportive way to tell my SO that his behaviour is driving me away. Nobody wants to hear that their partner is not attracted to their behaviour or demeanor. I don't want him to suppress a single part of his person; in fact one of the things that makes me admire and worship him so, and feel so lucky, is when this strong and capable man does reveal some weakness to me, or momentarily leans on me for support. But I do not want to be in the driver's seat. I want him to be the best man I know he can be at all times, and I don't know how to encourage that without first addressing the problem...

[–]LordXerces0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for your response. You need to address the problem to him. Don't do anything half-way. Just dive into it, heaven or hell may come, but it's better than postponing the inevitable

RP's ideas of relationships assume a certain degree of "the conscious side is often just rationalizing our pursuit of irrational things we want anyway, such as instinctive subconscious needs and desires".

Relationships, marriage, etc and are an inherently irrational thing. You're only doing it for a very specific reason. Your 'feelings' and 'instincts'. In this case, instincts of attraction. Otherwise, what's the point? Few(read: practically none) men can hold your feelings of infatuation and love just for being who they are. And its pointless to pretend.

We believe people who do not maintain attraction and instinctual reasons to be with each other encounter problems. Those problems are not the disease, but rather symptoms. You want to feel like you love him. The sexual part of you wants certain needs and checkmarkers fulfilled.

There's no shame in recognizing these and consciously working to fix them. Like a RP man will pursue his interests, so can and should a RP woman. Being with a needy, complacent man is not in your interests, and your feelings are telling you so. Leaving him and being a testing bitch is also, in our view, not in your interests and counterproductive to what most women want to do anyway(we don't believe women are life suckers, shockhorror)... which is, fix the man they already have committed to them.

Which brings us to our very simple solution: get him to be a fucking man. Get himself together.

The thing is, he's an idiot. Not intentionally. But he's buying into this manlet BP role he thinks is normal and thinks you'll find endearing. He's letting down his defenses and assuming attraction will stay there. Meanwhile, the only thing keeping you sane in between bouts of his idiocy is your loyalty. This is not a RP relationship. There is a fine line between support and loving loyalty and rewarding long-term laziness and complacency in non-performance.

I would recommend the simplest out: Put thought into it and then start introducing and explaining to him the behaviour you want to see from your partner. And the underlying logic behind it(or if you want, even the really surface obvious logic: "I don't like being your 2nd mom for 2 years"). Tell him you want him to be a man. And tell him how. Gently. RP men game using masculinity. You game him through femininity.

Introduce him to RP outright if you have to(EDIT: Not to self-advertise but I wrote a comment on a gameplan to introducing newbies to redpill in conversation you might find interesting.). Tell him you'll support him through it, and pick out of it what you want(in case his head's liable to explode if its in one go).

[–]mayhare0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

OP here; the alternate account under which I posted was banned. Thank you for your thoughtful response, it is much appreciated.

I think your idea of introducing and encouraging behaviour is the best way to turn everything around and put us back in balance. I have done this in the past with great results. Either by immediately telling him how much I appreciate something he has just said or done; or by imagining something I'd like him to do, and phrasing it to him in a way that assumes he has met that behaviour in the past, and telling him how much I appreciate/enjoy it. That probably doesn't make sense so I will give an example: say he hasn't come up with date plans for us in a while. I will say to him out of the blue, "I really like when you plan a date for us then surprise me with it. I love seeing you take charge." This makes him feel appreciated and admired, and also gives him a clear signal that making plans for a date = his girlfriend admires him all the more = he is able to take that feeling of strength and capability and apply it to everyday life more thoroughly.

[–]We_Are_Legion1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Personally, I don't like indirect approaches. Too many people who use them tend to not have an end game and frustrate themselves with false expectations of what their efforts will lead to.(read) They may be a bad judge of character and expect people to mind-read or intrinsically interpret the signals into the correct modes of action(read your last line over again, tell me if it fits). This is not a RP approach. A RP approach is based on reality.

Lemme illustrate:

The approach you're thinking of is a nudge, and its extremely effective and recommended when things are already going great and you just want to highlight a specific need. Through the nudge, the RPW is preserving harmony, giving love, having her needs met and without ever having shaken the boat or battling negative feelings.

A RPW though can already be submissive as a given. Unthinking, unconsciously, all the time. Not out of lack of self-respect. But out of trust. That her man loves her, and that she can utterly and without worry rely on him to lead. And keep the magic happening. This usually requires a consciously or naturally RP man. (Contrary to opinion, we can be romantic. If we want. It all depends on the couple.)

Your application of submissiveness though is a tool, but specifically, a proactive one... a weapon. You are not working within a harmonious relationship. You are applying the submissiveness and femininity that comes natural to a RPW in a relationship that doesn't really... deserve it yet. You're assuming on top of that submissiveness, he'll naturally mold into a man who is dominant. Given the right nudges, and some brilliant hinting and lots of time and effort... maybe it'll work... or maybe it won't. Simply put, it is highly situational, probably temporary, and places copious amounts of expectation on him.

I didn't get the impression from your post that is whats appropriate here. You don't respect him. You want to, and its making you unnecessarily guilty to admit it that you don't. He loves you, at least we know that much and he'd want you to be honest. What I personally suggest here is a generous helping of that: honesty. Skip the mind-games. Leave that to RP men. We're more experienced at it.

Ask yourself "what do I want?" Is it coddling a man every month so he'll give you date nights? A man who'll take charge only via you guiding him into position and putting on his head a hat? I don't remember your post exactly so if this is inaccurate, forgive me, but you mentioned you were frustrated he wouldn't earn or do anything productive with his time. And then became an entitled child to your things while not doing so much as planning a date night(hey, now you know why many men feel resentful about their wives). It sounds bad because it is. It is a bad BP relationship.

But I take back putting forth introduction to redpill ideas as a last resort. I apologize for the wrong information. Use it as your first resort. Temper it so that it makes sense and fits both of you and start introducing. You can apply and grow into it however you like later(but keep fundamentals in order).

hell, just copy paste the original post you wrote, if you saved it, and send it. If you didn't, write a new letter. Just tone down the apologia(it creates negative feelings, most likely guilt) and be firm and non-nubulous in providing actionable information and lots of encouragement(it creates positive feelings, like love. you already have the hang of encouragement). Most of all, like I began this post, I'll say again; have an actual end-game to your efforts. Think about what that is. If you can't figure it out. Consult experienced red pillers to point you at the right resources(take care to leave your ego and sensibilities at home. RP talk is harsh) where you can get an idea.

This is not a state of unhappiness and dissatisfaction RPers in LTRs like lingering long in. Don't be indirect here.

EDIT: /u/danabanana or another mod should correct me if what I say is wrong. I'm not familiar with standard RPW discourse specifically(I'm just passing through the sub) but most of this is standard.

[–]mayhare0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I think you are spot on, and your advice about keeping RP ideas as a last resort fits me better. Your advice about having an end game as well is something I hadn't considered, but makes complete sense. The last thing I want is to spend the rest of my life feeling angry and displeased and like I am forever trying to "change" my SO's behaviour.

6 months ago you were worrying about being about to get murdered by some random you met on the internet? im calling troll on this one, lets see how it develops

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm gonna call troll. A year old account with only two posts and one comment? Probably an alt for someone else.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

yeh its a troll i removed it lol how many tropes could she pack into it?

[–]We_Are_Legion1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That seemed to be a lot of detail for a troll account. Maybe she just wanted to be able to post without the silly internet stigma of being a RPer.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

oh they do it all the time, its like a fiction writing exercise

[–]mayhare0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

OP here. I'm not a troll. The account I posted under is one of my alternate accounts. (Also if you re-read the post I made 6 months ago you'll notice the person in question & I didn't meet on the internet - we met because we work in the same building.)

The funny thing is I have been very much against RP philosophy since I learned of it some months ago. In the past few days though, I feel like my worldview has been shaken. I am having trouble reconciling my feeling. I am not surprised at being called a troll, in fact I almost expected it, because I know that TRP/RPW are troll magnets and I have not contributed to this sub before; no one would have any idea of my intentions based on this account's post history. I actually chose to post under my alternate account here because under my normal account you would see how often I post in subs that mock RP/RPW and there would be vast amounts of egg on my face. In that /u/We_Are_Legion is correct.

I am saddened but not surprised at being turned away. I came here hoping for advice and the experiences of women (and some men) who could understand how I feel over the situation. I tried very hard to word my post in a way that aligns with this sub's rules and I worried over it being interpreted as trolling/concern trolling or similar. I find myself unable to imagine how I could twist anyone's responses to my situation into something politically motivated. Being banned off the bat without being given a chance to defend myself or prove my sincere intentions sucks, but I suppose I also understand it. It is absolutely not my intent to come here and sow discord.

Edit: I also want to apologise for the delay in responding - I assume most people on this subreddit are in the USA whereas I am in Australia.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

are you married? how old are you? how old is he? do you have kids? how long have you been together?

[–]mayhare0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

OP here. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I live in a different time zone, outside of the US.

We are not married. We are both 23. We do not have kids. We have been together 2 years. Phrased like that it makes the relationship sound a lot less serious but I am definitely not one to cut and run at the first sign of trouble. I chose him for a reason.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Reading through your posting history a little bit it looks like you are determined yo waste your short fleeting youth on psychotics and drug addict shemale porn watching losers. I'm not sure why you decided to ask for our advice after making fun of our ideas, but the MAIN idea is that you are supposed to use you youth to find a GOOD man, not to force a 2 year "boyfriend/girlfriend" into pseudomarriages and fight to keep them at all costs.

The man you described in your posting was ludicrously horrifying sounding to the point that it unequivocally sounded like a parody. You are only 23, you are wasting the best years of your life, I dont know how attractive you are now, but you are likely NOT going to be MORE attractive after you waste 5 more years with him. We aren't usually ones for telling people to break up with LTRS willy nilly, but what you described really sounds like there is call for it.

You are very very young. You aren't married you don't have kids and a mortgage. Do you see yourself having a long happy marriage or life with this man? Why one earth are you forcing yourself to just accept that he likes she male porn or casually demands threesomes after such a short time and after describing such a ludicrous person? Is it some Hipster feminist thing? He's not your husband. He is a BOYFRIEND, the time to find someone more worthwhile is now.

I know all you silly asshole girls who make fun of us think we don't know what we're talking about, but most of us are much older than you. I saw your life play out multiple times practically before you were born. When you are young all the lives and relationships around you are all beginnings, tempest and I have seen and even lived through the ends of these 20s relationships and maybe we know what we're talking about

One note, if in fact your boyfriend isn't as ridiculous as you described, you should consider the visceral and over the top reaction your description of him engendered in readers. You described your relationship in terms that made people who strongly believe in preserving relationships think you were a troll. You should have come to us honestly, you could have Pmed me and explained why you wanted to use an alt and your posting history. All we care about is helping girls no matter what the other subs think. Your youth is never ever ever going to come back
