Self-deprecating humor: Alpha or Beta?

In addition to what everyone said, it depends on your tone, as does everything. Remember that it's not what you say, but how you say it. If you are going to self deprecate, make sure these conditions are met:

There was a joke about you:
"You're ugly"
"Of course I am, why else would I be hitting on you."
This is a sure way to get her off guard, just be careful, say it and it can make or break your chance.
It doesn't sound weird:
Hitting on a young girl (say, you're 28, she's 18): "So you like little girls?" "Yeah I'm a paedophile."
Not cool yo, not cool, find something better, not even a smile can take the creep out of that one.
It fits:
People commented you have nice arms? Don't fucking say you have chicken arms. (and don't boast, it makes you look needy for attention).

And lastly, if you decide to go ahead and deprecate yourself, wear it like a motherfucking winner, don't regret it latter and quietly say "JK" after it. If it sounds bad, take notice, and don't let it be awkward.

On self-deprecating humor, here is my take:

Making yourself look like a complete pussy:Beta

Making yourself look like a complete asshole:Alpha

I want to say this is longer terms but I think this is sufficient. Don't go overboard for laughs either, keep it brief.

Only use self-deprecating jokes if you're escalating someone else' joke about you. Never clown yourself for no reason, but don't let someone else make the best joke about you either.

Depends on the situation. But if you are using it too much, you as basically asking for validation.

Depends on context and delivery. Can be good if done correctly, (I.e. once ypu have already established that you're confident)

It depends entirely on the subject matter. It's not beta if it's demonstrably untrue. i.e. You're very handsome but the joke is you're ugly. Or, you're rich and the joke is you're poor.

If it's at all feasible that the joke is an accurate statement, it's beta as fuck.

Of course I don't know if this should still be considered "self deprecating".

In my experience it depends on the situation. If you have high enough value in that situation and do it in a way that is not entirely self-depecrating, you're good. You can't go to the extent that it seems like you actually doubt yourself but if you do it in a way that shows you're not afraid to laugh at yourself in a healthy way it's all good. Don't be that dude that just knocks on himself so much chicks think you actually don't like yourself.

Before I read this forum I always thought self-deprection was a way to show your personality, to admit your flaws as a way to connect and other BS. As soon as I took the red pill all that was flushed down the toilet, and I felt immediately sure that, that was the wrong way to go. Women don't want to connect to you. They don't want to know you as a person. That is, they don't care who you are, they only care what you are. Are you tall, are you handsome, are you muscular, are you a rocker, are you rich, are you educated, are you able to be top dog in social situations etc. Weakness has never served me well. Arrogance, even unsubstantiated arrogance, has.

Men will love women for their weaknesses and insecurities. Women will despise men and be repulsed by their weaknesses. Even for, and perhaps especially for, the ones that you think you share. I learned this the hard way.

It can go either way, but my suggestion would be, only do it when you want to. Doing something when you want to is an expression of boundary power, which is an Alpha trait.

My humor used to be full of self-deprecation. That was then, this is now and it is rare that I want to put myself down.
