Guys, I have made a post and a couple of comments here, so I only think it fair you have a rough idea of who I am. I feel my experience is a bit unique, and I'm happy to share what I have learned over the past 1/4 century or so.
Had been leading a sort of MGTOW/Stright-edge existence in my teens and twenties, focused on getting an education and becoming a man. Had some rough experiences with girls in high school, and just decided that I needed more credibility to get the job, family and life I wanted and didn't want the drama that came with girls. I was a fraternity man, so met lots of women but was just generally unhappy with the quality of women I was meeting and their mindset.
I have been with my wife for 21 years. Broke the mold and did what you guys call a "unicorn" on her. Met her on a cold approach when she was 18 a few months after she had broken up with her first boyfriend. Our agreement was I'll be Han Solo, you be Princess Leah. Her family's deal was, we'll let her go this young, but she has to finish four year college and you have to pay for it. Other words: We like your talk, now show us the action. She has been great. Supportive, affectionate, kept herself up, works out etc..
Things were cruising along in the Millennium Falcon just fine for about the first 15 years, but had a combination of personal, business and financial events that destroyed my frame. In retrospect, none of them were that bad, but taken together, they were too much for me to handle. Add the embarrassment that a chronic injury kept me at home with the kids and my wife's career was all of the sudden on fire completely defeated me. I had the ideas and practice, but no "canonical" or philosophical references to call on to keep my thoughts straight.
The guilt of all the above turned me into the prototypical Glover nice guy. I went from a guy who was making finance presentations in Zurich, London, New York, to a bitch showing off my house cleaning to my wife... hoping for some reward. You all know where that can only lead, so I won't tire you with the details.
Started trying to get things back under control a couple of years ago. Read Kay, Glover. Lost about 35lb that had crept on with the injury. Generally regaining frame and credibility. Had one small event that I backslid on but I must be back to my old self, because my wife is finally happier than ever.
There are lots of details I'm leaving out to stay brief. I just wanted to say what you would now call MRP worked for me in the past, and is again now. Your SMV or credibility or whatever you want to call it takes the elevator down, but the fire stairs up. Meaning it takes time to rebuild. I had a bit of a head start in that I started my marriage with some clear RP understandings. I wouldn't want to be just figuring this out in my mid 40's, but I think it can be done.
Good luck on your journeys, brothers.
