Hello Queens,

Today I am asking your advice. I was born/raised in a home with unstable finances. Growing up my mother supported us (as a loose term) via welfare/gambling, child support, survivors benefits (after my father died), then back to welfare, gambling, and high interest loans. In that order.

I am working my way through the book Difficult Mothers Adult Daughters and it’s showing me I am responsible for my here and now. I have no financial literacy skills. My bank account is 300$ in the negative, I’m on unemployment (but I am applying for work), my main skills are coffee (I can do lattes art and hand pull espresso) and front desk. I’m in school if that helps at all. I have no savings, no car, and live with my mother.

Could you Ladies give me some examples of books to teach me how to be responsible with money? And also if you have anything on compulsive spending I would love that.

Edit: I am studying linguistics. I am proficient at Spanish and am starting ASL classes in the fall. The goal is full fluency in both. I would like to translate specifically for children, immigrants, and underfinanced communities.
