It's funny, even though they were trying to set men up as evil and bad, they really revealed something true.

Look at the comic, how does the male protagonist reach their full potential? BY WORKING HARD.

Name one movie popular among women where a woman works hard to reach her full potential. Name one training montage starring a woman that's aimed towards a female audience. What? None? Of course, because there is a main difference.

Men fantasize about having a secret great potential they can only achieve through hard work, women fantasize about being great and not being recognized for it.

This is basically every chickflick. At most, self-realization requires a makeover, never hard work. You know all the examples, I don't have to list them.

This is why men love DBZ (training hard to reach a complete new level) and love Batman much more than Superman ( working hard, being normal and achieving greatness vs. being born great). We fantasize of having this untapped potential that can be brought forth through hard work. Women dream of already being great and just being found.

tl;dr You will never see a fat female protagonist working out to get what they want.

The comic is pretty funny in it's own white knighting way, but female superheroes and badasses are pretty much a beta (really omega) male pedastooling fantasy. The men who really like this generally are so weak that it's no surprise they want a stronger, but devoted, female in their life like a quasi mother figure who will develop them into a man (pretty much pipe dream of child-like nurturing right there) and by the end they can kiss.

In reality, women aren't badasses and they want their men to come ready-made, no assembly required. For example, just look around at mundane everyday heros, compare how many female vs male fire fighters died in 9/11 and the like.

Lately, it's girl heroes are developing into a trope like how all sitcom dads are stupid, sitcom moms are smart and level headed, etc. Female heroes are fun and cute, and started out in a script-flipping sort of way long ago (Wonder Women), but bullshit empowerment issues aside this comic is just ignoring all the female heros that already existed for a long time as the stars of their show (Xena, Buffy, Hunger Games, etc) just to bitch about few guy protagonists wish-fulfillment fantasies that are hanging on for boys like and not bowing down to womyn heroes.

The makers ignore some important things.

1) The lead doesn't just become better than the female, he always becomes better than every other male protagonist as well.

2) The male hero is always initially rejected as being substandard by the female. She always doubts and judges him at first. In the matrix, for example, trinity didn't even believe morpheus at first. Later after neo proves himself, and having thoroughly rejected the guy who always loved her, Cypher, she favors Neo because he she starts to show that he is a badass messiah god. If anything these stories tell men they will be getting absolutely no pussy until the become the most awesome dude in the entire world. The Matrix and Wanted didn't fade in on two average guys with already average and fulfilling love lives... that's waiting on the other side of boundless success.

Sounds like Wanted, Kick-Ass, That Tom Cruise Movie that just came out (the one where he dies over and over again), Trinity's Role in the Matrix. It's also kinda Scott Pilgrim-ish but that's arguable. There is an ongoing theme of trying to make chicks kick ass in movies and make the guy a simp that learns to kick ass. There's probably a lot more but off the top of my head those are the only action movies. There are countless movies where the guy is socially retarded and has to be reformed by a girl as well.

Edit: By hypergamy in this case are we talking about "dating up" or actively rejecting inferior chicks for hotter chicks?
