Something really fucked up about this-- Williams was diagnosed bipolar. The writer talks about William's mental state when he marries the second wife, but fails to theorize that he may have been so careless as not to get a prenup because he was in a manic episode. (Very likely.) Under our legal system, people who commit crimes in manic episodes are often not culpable. If you got someone to sign a business contract while in an impaired or unstable mental state it would be null and void, should you be able to prove said impairment at time of signing. But, if a person engages in the social contract of marriage while in the grips of mental illness, they are still fully culpable for the financial repercussions of divorce. Fucked up.

Yeah I was disappointed he didn't cover that, I've got the condition myself, though he was far more manic than I am, mania does weird things, I'm sure he did many strange things due to his mania, it defined him as a person.

There was an hour long video on youtube that summed this up really well, lemme try and find it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diyuAXzN7yo

Well shit that took 15 minutes to find, hope you enjoy. If you need a reason to watch, how about the fact that there's an amusing reason why bitches are leaving him comments like this

You kind of just blamed women for his death without actually knowing what happened. Seems like you are just woman hating for your own sake. Youre clearly devastated by your own mother and taking it out on any circumstance you can blame women for. Weak and shameful person you are.

Which shows pretty clearly how well he's hit the nail.

The two biggest red flags for me are that:

  • he was about to be paid $165 million for the films/tv work he had done
  • his (third) wife was sleeping in a separate bedroom

Wanna bet he discovered that she was either sleeping around or planning on divorcing him?

Its a great post and I agree completely. However I don't believe prenups can cover the assets you acquire after marriage. So technically if you are broke and marry a prenup would be useless.

Of course, don't marry and don't live in a state with common law marriage.

[–]Glenbert6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't think this blogger has a clue how prenups actually work, especially in CA.

Manosphere needs better QA.

[–]abcd_z4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Interesting. I've found BlackDragon to be quite helpful in other contexts, though I've never had reason to test his advice regarding prenups.

In what way would you say his prenup statements are inaccurate?

[–]Glenbert2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I don't know much about them -- were I blogging about them, I would. But I do know that they have never really represented any surefire safeguard against paying alimony. They are really designed to protect ones pre-marital and heritable assets, TMK.

[–]abcd_z1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Most states allow a prenup to include an alimony waiver, but a handful of states don't. You'd have to check your state's laws to be certain.

[–]Glenbert0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm quite comfortable guessing that California (where no fault divorce came from... enacted by Ronald Reagan, folks) is not one of those states.

[–]abcd_z1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Somebody pointed that out in the comments and BD agreed that Robin Williams shouldn't have gotten married at all then.

[–]jcrpta2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In many parts of the world, they do very little or nothing - laws have been drafted to ensure there's very little you can write into a prenup that's binding.

When you're looking at divorcing someone with that sort of money, it wouldn't be too hard to find a divorce lawyer who's only too happy to make the case that the prenup should be thrown out.

Prenups dont protect what you've accumulated during marriage.

I really want Robin William's death to be an inception point of new discussion on both depression and the treatment of men in divorce, but I can't shake the realization that everything about his death could suggest he did not commit suicide and instead auto-erotic asphyxiated.

didn't he off himself cus he had parkinsons, or alzheimers, or something?

[–]jcrpta9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depression, officially, and it seems quite common that people who are that smart are also slightly mentally unstable.

All joking aside though, you take someone who's slightly mentally unstable and put them through a legal system that essentially makes them slaves to their ex-wives while having to live on the breadline themselves - and you think they're going to come out of it with a smile on their face?!

[–]nechoha2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was a mixture of things: depression, Parkinson's, alimony, and who knows what else. A sad thing for me to say is that one of my childhood stars let his fate consume him. Robin was by far a comedian and actor of caliber. I feel that his later years he became more sedentary. This slow apathy would have choked his options down to a few. As red pillers, one should always try to find ways to improve oneself, lessen weaknesses and enjoy life. I can't say with intimate knowledge how Robin Williams lived in his private life, but at some point I believe he broke the cycle of improvement to cause his spiral.

[–]1sailorJery1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He did have the beginning stages of Parkinson's, yes.
