Society doesn't care about men.

The sooner you accept it the better. You need to look after yourself because no one else will.

It's the difference between men and women right there.

If they put the woman's angle on it they'll get a lot of money. It's a business decision.

Women will donate because it will help them feel better about how they treat individual women. Women hate other women, but they will do anything for "women" as a concept.

Men will donate because they have been socialized to care for women and put their needs first.

http://heartiste.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/the-fundamental-premise/

Eggs are expensive, sperm is cheap. Every psychological dynamic you see playing out in mass societies liberated from artificial constraints on the sexual market flows from this premise. This means, as a systemic matter, women are coddled, men are upbraided. Women are victims, men are victimizers. Women need a leg up, men need to man up. Women have advocacy groups, men have equal opportunity violations. A woman subjected to the indignity of eavesdropping on a tame joke about dongles makes national news, while the chilling fact that 95% of all workplace deaths are suffered by men barely pings the media consciousness.

It is what it is, and it will never change so long as humans are a sexually reproducing species.

Men wearing dresses? Reeeally?

It's like this stupid fucking "Hunks in Pumps" deal all over again.

They're taking an issue which affects both men and women alike (in OP's case heart disease, in this case cancer). Nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that they only focus on the women who have this issue, totally ignoring the fact that men are just as prone to it.

So then after they've denied men the dignity of getting attention for their issues, they get these same men to humiliate themselves for their amusement by emasculating themselves with female apparel.

That's kind of a disturbing and oddly specific trend.

I don't even believe their claims. They say that more women than men die of heart disease. I tried looking for that online and all I got were links to the wear red day stuff saying the same thing. What else I did find all said that men were definitely more at risk to die from heart disease than women.

Why the hell would I wear a red dress when I'm equally at risk? If I went to one of these things I'd wear all denim. GO BLUE FOR MEN

All males are expendable. The only thing that matters is what "you" believe you should do. Enjoy shit before "The Great Collapse" and prove to yourself what your about.

At least when you realize you're considered expendable you know where you stand. To me that is...for lack of a better word...empowering.

trying to see the silver lining

Just an excuse for these goofs to wear dresses.

Honestly... You're right. But there is lots of stuff for mens awareness as well, such as movember and lots of stuff for prostate cancer etc.

The womens angle about this is that knowledge about women having heart attacks is very sparse, and a lot of women who die dont realize they are having one. My own mother would have died if my father had not already had two. She felt weak and went to lie down, she had no clue.

lots of stuff for prostate cancer etc.

Bullshit. The US spends 3-4 times more on breast cancer research than prostate cancer research.

Tits sell.

[–]jacobman4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem I have is that it's a big fundraising event that funnels all the money to women, when from everything I've found men need the most help with heart disease. If it was strictly an awareness issue to let women know that that's something that should be on their mind too, it would be a different thing for me. However, it's going to affect future research. Women already get the lions share of money and attention when it comes to health care. Maybe it wasn't so when feminism started, but it certainly is now.

[–]fihsined1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The difference is women already have groups, special healthcare benefits, charities, and the attention and sympathy of everyone. Only in the last 5 years have men had any organizations or fundraisers actually succeed in helping them with their issues.

When issues are about men, they're ignored. When they're about men and women, the men are ignored. When they're about women exclusively, it's beyond urgent and important.
