Rather disappointed a writer like Douthat who I usually have a lot of time for would write shit like this, this is one of the more deplorable examples of white knighting i've ever seen.

But once I thought about it I remembered 1 of the great truths that all manospherians do know or should & that the religious right is every bit as much our enemy as the feminist left is & he has clearly articulated why that is the case.

The religious right and feminists have a lot in common i.e. opposition to pornography. The solutions proposed to eliminate threats on the internet are a perfect cover for state control & regulation.

This reminds me of Richard Dawkins videos where he reads out abusive emails he's received so everyone can have a good chuckle about them.

Of course having someone say they want to rape you then decapitate you is a lot worse than merely saying they want to decapitate you... I suppose.

I normally like Douthat. I was surprised and disappointed by this particular article. For a NYTimes op-ed he's usually the one you can count on to stand up to liberal PC bs. Probably the first article of his I've been forced to shake my head at.

It can't be easy to be him at the Times newsroom.

Forums on the internet have traditionally been a male space. Now with the growth of multimedia and social networking more and more women are posting their opinions on line. That's cool. The only problem is that whenever women invade a male space, they force everyone to play by woman rules to protect their feels.

The reason that trolls seem to target women is BECAUSE of their lack of thick skin; you can't be trolled if you don't TAKE THE BAIT.

Women's solipsism = they INHERENTLY have thin skin: that is, they assume every incident of trolling is personal because they are incapable of seeing it through another's eyes. If they could, they would just say it was trolling and go about their day. The backlash for Rebecca Watson's "atheism+" is another example. Anna Sarkeesian's removal of ratings and comments from her youtube (and her "rational") is another example. There are literally countless examples.

The crux of the situation is that women absolutely cannot handle even the smallest criticism, let alone the purposeful outrage a troll is trying to nvoke. Their EGO won't allow it to be just a silly troll.

Rape threats are part and parcel of every Xbox live chat. The difference is, as a man, I can actually assess the relative threat which xXxPrOdrOsMOk3R420xXx poses to my asshole, and determining it to be approximately nil, brush it off.
