We often times think of religion as patriarchal, but my experience of Christianity, both in Orthodox and Catholic surroundings has been extremely matriarchal, deeply rooted in Mary, the Madonna, etc...

In my opinion, the reason why so much emphasis is placed on the female spirit of Christianity is because the Church's main clientele are in fact women.

Think about it, in Latin America, Europe and even North America it is usually the older women who are giving their time and money to the church and its various events. I know in Europe many widowed women will leave portions of their inheritance to the church.

In short; the Church, like any well run business, knows it customer.

For all the flak Christianity gets from being patriarchal I've always found overtly religious women to be the absolute worst (or best) in terms of being sluts. It's like that "only God can judge me bullshit" actually gives them a sort of free pass to do what they want then pray/confess to the priest/engage in whatever other ritual which they believe washes it away

In fact whenever a person I don't particularly care about tells me he/she is religious I always enjoy asking them "difficult" questions about sex/porn/masturbation-I'm fully aware of how inappropriate this is, but in my mind bringing up your religious beliefs as if they are a credential if you haven't been asked is as well.

The current view of the Conservative Christian church is pretty messed up in what it tells women, in my opinion.

It tells two things that both can work, but cannot work together - 1. They should be virgins until they're married (which is fine by itself) 2. But also, that they should follow the current standard where you wait until way post college to even think about marriage.

These two things don't work together.

In an age when people got married somewhere between 14 and 18, this was totally fine. In an age where she's supposed to be 23 before she even think about getting married? That's just not going to work.

I will now likely get downvoted by a bunch of people who hypocritically simultaneously believe that women should be virgins before getting married, but also love to talk about how they have 3 different plates spinning right now in other threads. One day you'll have to realize - you can't actually have it both ways with all women. Either you're stuck only having sex with 1 women for your whole life, or women are going to be having sex with > 1 man.

Why can't a woman have lots of sex? I don't get it. If I want to fuck lots of women, it makes my life a lot easier if there are more women interested in fucking lots of men. I wish more women were interested in just having sex.
