I think it's bullshit.

My ex has tried to have me jailed 5 times, 3 of which she used my son to make the claim against me.

All child abuse charges were categorized as unfounded.

Nothing has happened to my ex as a result of these false charges. She has never received so much as a whisper by a judge or anyone for that matter telling her not to continue do so. What she get was custody of the children and possession of the marital home + $1000 a month in support payments.

Lawyer up and see what options are available.

Don't want to talk to a lawyer? Then deal with it... They know what they're doing and all the loopholes. Just get into a good convo about it and explore your options.

Edit: If you have tried already I feel sorry for you. Good luck!

Been through years of lawyering already.

My solution? "I love you kids, here's my number - call me when you want to see me."

The false accusations are a method she employs to deprive me of my parenting rights. The ex thinks alienating me from them is a justifiable means of revenge for my infidelity. I guess I was supposed to exist in a loveless, sexless marriage being her indefinite means of financial support. In retrospect, I know full well that cheating was the wrong way to handle things, but at the time she was very verbally and emotionally abusive to me and I sought comfort outside the marriage. I should have just filed for divorce before it got to that point. It still would have been hell, but at least I wouldn't have armed her with the additional hamster rationale for what she continues to do today.

We're talking about 8 years! This all went down late 2005. I suppose it will continue until child support ends. I'm just trying to put as much separation between the ex and I as possible. This way she can't do me any further harm - or put our kids in a position to continue to corroborate her false claims against me.

It's a sad and unfortunate thing, but there is no legal mechanism in place to really protect me and the children from her insanity. It would cost me an additional $100K to wrest custody from her - and that comes with no guarantee. Such an expenditure would take away from my new wife and son, and my future quite frankly.

I've given up. The ex will do what she wants. I'm just hoping that in time my kids will seek me out when they become old enough to figure out how they've been manipulated to serve my ex wife's obsession. They'll realize she exchanged their childhood of having a loving father in their lives for her hatred.

It may or may not ever happen, but either way I must press forward and live life in the best most honorable way possible. As long as my side of the street is clean, that's all I can be concerned with.

Fat American feminist. Should be ignored.

[–]Mitchell786 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That piece is full of feminist lies and bullshit.

It is a great time to be an American dad. Never in our nation’s history has it been so socially accepted, and even encouraged, for men to be involved, emotionally available and committed fathers.... These gains are largely to the credit of the feminist movement, including the activists who shook up our assumptions about appropriate gender roles, the women who encouraged men to participate more fully in the home and the men who chose to be more active fathers and partners.

WTF? Feminists are the ones who oppose changes to family court laws and alimony laws. Feminists oppose making paternity tests mandatory after child birth. Feminists support affirmative action laws which discriminate against men in the work force. Feminists preach Patriarchy and rape culture. Feminists use inaccurate statistics to create laws that discriminate against men (such as the wage gap statistics and statistics which claim that men commit the vast majority of domestic violence.)

Under current child support and family court laws, a wife could have another man's child, file for divorce, keep the house in the divorce, get full custody of the kids, be awarded lifetime alimony, and be awarded child support for the illegitimate child (because the husband acted in a fatherly way). And Feminists support all of these laws.

No, the improvement in father's rights is due to the Men's Rights Movement, not Feminism.

they're confusing "the right to be a feminine man" with "the right to fair treatment as a father".

Paternity security? Protection in divorce cases? Protection against mandatory alimony? Well shit, you can get pregnancy leave now, shut the fuck up and do the dishes!

This seemed relevant here:

While equality is not a simple equation wherein one group loses as another gains, it is true that as women make political, economic and social advances, many men see their own long-standing presumptions of power and dominance challenged. The things to which they believe they were entitled — whether those are jobs, college admissions spots or traditionally all-male social and professional networks — now have more people competing for them. Heterosexual men can no longer rely on unpaid female labor, in the form of a doting wife, at home. They can no longer simply bring home a paycheck and be considered a good dad and partner.

My mother called the cops on my father for DV because grabbed her shoulders and moved her out of the way so he could leave. She was upset at his viewing of pornography and was confrontational about it. He said get out of my way and she would not. So he moved her and left the room. She called the cops and got him arrested and charged.

Later, this charge was preventing him from securing a job that they desperately needed, so they had to jump through hoops and a number of interviews where she had to deny that any DV had actually occurred.

DV does happen and its terrible. At the same time shit like this happens and a guy gets something on his record forever. It was complete and utter bullshit. It was so easy for her to do this that it terrified me...

Come on, man. What makes you think that's relevant?

It's a middlebrow response to an empty strawman argument, and it's employed to avoid having to deal with the specific concerns of the men's rights movement.

Men's rights activists (not "father's rights advocates", as the author cheekily uses to ignore most of the concerns of the movement) aren't opposed to competition from women. Not a single one complains that women are allowed to go to college. Not a single one complains that women are allowed to apply for jobs.

If you need to reduce the men's rights movement to a single soundbite, they're opposed to western society's hypersensitivity to women's issues and its numbness men's issues.

For example, while young men are increasingly out-earned and out-educated by young women, feminist activists (and western society at large) continue to do everything they can to increase that gap in the name of equality. "We need more young women in tech!"

While men make up the majority of victims of violent crime, feminist activists (and western society at large) obsess over female victims.

We could go on for hours like this. "It's misogynist to make women pay for contraception and abortion! Those fucking worthless deadbeat dads needs to be thrown in jail!"

But no. Let's dismiss these specific concerns. Men are just so confused and so mangry that their toys are finally being taken away. That's all.

This post confirms that feminism is just a giant shit test.

[–]fuckingkike0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Not really relevant, unless you consider unsubtle trolling "relevant."

The presumption in that seems to be that uniformity, not equality, is what's desirable, that people should be socially engineered to achieve that end, and that the authors and their compatriots should be the people who decide what the ends and means should be.

Now, given the slightest provocation, most people will whine endlessly about how hard their life is. Added competition for jobs or classroom seats is one thing, but, like price controls, affirmative action-type policies intended to encourage equality actually cause odd problems. For instance, behavioral economists like Dan Ariely have found legislating against biases caused by conflicts of interest result in exaggerated compensation that tends to make the biases worse more than the legislation corrects for. You end up with a double whammy of slowing progress and increasing prejudice.

You see a lot of the reactionary "women dumb, men smart" here, but most of the "men's rights" movement seems to be based on the idea that feminism doesn't explicitly deal with issues specific to men, and that it needs to. I don't think this is the right approach, but I also don't think that men's concerns should be discounted simply on their opponents' say so with half-thought-out arguments like:

Heterosexual men can no longer rely on unpaid female labor, in the form of a doting wife, at home. They can no longer simply bring home a paycheck and be considered a good dad and partner.

Because the same is true of heterosexual women, right? They can no longer expect praise and a free ride for simply raising kids and keeping house...

Edit: spelling.

their stated ideals — that fathers have rights to their children and courts make fair custody decisions — sound harmless or even positive on their face, FRAs are not looking for equality; they are promoting a regressive, starkly patriarchal ideologyFRAs are overwhelmingly white and male, and their central belief is that men are the victims not only of feminism but of an entire society that pampers women and is prejudiced against men. They claim that the family court system is biased in favor of women; that women routinely make up claims of domestic violence and child sexual abuse in order to win custody battles; that fathers are more fit parents than mothers; and that American men are systematically stripped of their fatherhood rights by hyperpowerful feminists. And they are angry.

So let me get this straight.

  • You're saying these men are lying about their goals, yet offer no contrary evidence
  • You've categorized and generalized based on race and sex
  • You're not refuting any of the points listed - accepting some as fact to fuel other stawman arguments
  • You're saying some are angry for having the cards stacked against them. (Well no shit Sherlock)

I could go on all day address these arguments/hamstering in the article...but I think I'd be preaching to the choir.

Aljazeera really needs to shy away from this kind of crap and focus on the real news. Their international news is spot on, but I suppose they have to tard it up to compete with the US news outlets with this kind of feminist ego-stroking crap.
